The new Poldark

Recommended Posts

Anyone watching this? I am old enough to remember Robin Ellis smouldering away on the screen in the 70's. Went in with an open mind. Aidan Turner is a dish  . The only one who seems mis cast is George Warleggan - the actor is too wish washy. What everyone else think?

I must admit I thought there would be a post on this sooner - knowing the Omlet ladies love a good looking guy to slobber over  I loved call the midwife but poor Fred didnt quite do it for me. I love a guy in a smock shirt and tight breeches. Hot flush coming on

Yes, Aidan is lovely but I still hanker after Peter Ginn (him of the archeological bent) much more macho and chunky and probably nearer my age too!

The Cornish scenery deserves a mention as well, I think! I am glad that they have not gone for the whole Cornish accent thing....always sounds a bit false but maybe I am being too picky

Any bloke whos "Heathcliffish" works for me. Fancy a run over the moors after a yummy looking dark brooding hunk. Sadly due to the fact -

1backs not up to it

2 too old - need to be 20 years younger

3 too married

so I will salivate over the screen on a Sunday evening. Peter Ginn is lovely too and you;re right Soapdragon - nearer my age - although in my case he'd be a toyboy I think.

It's a big thumbs up from me too :D My 17 year old daughter and I watch it together  Ah Aidan

I also remember the original and totally love the area :D:dance: It's my favourite place in the whole country  On a Cornish holiday a few years back we visited the Poldark mine :D

I read somewhere that the BBC had trouble with the weather whilst shooting the series........it was too good :lol: They were hoping for stormy & moody.....got fab sunshine and one of the best summers in recent years  Having said that I am enjoying

You mean 'a cornish accent'? The thing is set in Cornwall, so unless you're going to pretend that no one in Cornwall then had an accent, the actors should speak with a cornish accent, not this ridiculous Westcountry bumpkin accent that the Cornish are nearly always given in TV programs.

Sorry. Rant over.

No offence meant Soapdragon and yes the county does look lovely - despite the odd burglar alarm!!

Thats what I mean.........OH's family hail from Devon and have a lovely 'bur' but I am so fed up with the generic West Country 'ooh arrr' accent that seems so prevalent in the media as being representative of three whole counties!!! There are SO many different accents in Somerset, Devon and Cornwall; I think that people don't always appreciate that....descends from soapbox.

missed the burglar alarms  The only one or 2 in the original with accents as I remember were Demelza, JUd and Prudie. I think todays actors overdo the accents - many end up sounding like a Wurzel  even though its wrong county. I like our diverstiy of accents. In the Archers we have all sorts - same family all have different accents. Going without the accent is better - some actors are good at them others end up sounding stupid and you cant understand them. Will be looking out for burglar alarms this week thats if I can keep my eyes off Mr Turner.

Not here either. Arrrr! Sorry couldn't resist. They talk Arrrr here too. Few and far between but it still exists. Also so does OH's cousins. But they be Brztol girls. Hereford is all ooh arr and so is Norfolk and Suffolk - each with their own burr which I love - because I don't have an accent at all. :boohoo:

And I do love a nice Lancashire accent a la Bumble!

Mum and I watched the original. I don't seem to feel the need to look at another version. Although in my mind there's only one Pride and Prejudice Mr Darcy - and that was Colin Firth. He's OK but he was HOT in that.

Ah yes, Peter Ginn - aka Fonz! Well that didn't last into the next series did it!

I'm an East Midland girl so its "Ayup me duck" ES a Londoner born and bred didnt like being called a duck by my friends when little. Or duckie either. I do remember a bit of "arrring" as well from some of grans friends - that instead of yes. it was arr this and arr that. That and being "frit ta death" (Frightened to those not in the know) You need a whole new dictionary in some parts of this country.

Really enjoying it.

Loved the books, loved the original series SPOILER ALERT(although I really hated that they changed the story so that Ross married Demelza because she was pregnant)

Hope the new series stays true to the book.

Wasn't at all sure about the choice of actors when I heard about it, but they all seem really well cast. Looking forward to seeing Robin Ellis popping up soon.

I remember the original series fondly - I was only young but we watched it because Angharad Rees was a family friend :)

Poldark, Roots, & Bouquet of barbed Wire are all very srong in my childhood memories , although what my parents were thinking letting me watch Bouquet I will never know!

Aiden Turner has been on my swoon radar for a very long time - he is darn fancyable & ticks all the boxes for me.

I especially have a thing for men with beautiful curly hair, & the breeches & flowing shirts are just a bonus :P

Sadly she died last year from pancreatic cancer - same cancer as took Ralph Bates aka George Warleggan many yrs back. He made a good baddie. There was a dishy doctor too in the original - the actor also died young. The original Verity was Anna Massey _ I think - also deceased. |The woman who plays Verity apparently is the daughter of the woman who was the female swinger in |Benidorm and also in one foot in the grave. No I dont watch much telly just read a lot. I too watched Bouquet and got the general idea - not sure that I'd have let my kids watch it. My mum had some weird ideas of what was appropriate viewing for a 12 yr old.
