Gallina
I put in the first bid on eBay (£4.99) an unwanted shade that comes with the Cube, but was soon outbid. The price secondhand fetched here on eBay was £13. The price new at the Omlet shop is £12....
SarahJo
Yes in my experience - OH just got a tent brand new for £98, from a camping outlet. The same tent went for £200 ( nearly new price ) on e-bay, had been used twice, and still had £15 P and P to pay ontop. Sometimes its better to google 1st
Cinnamon
Oh yes, I have often sold something for more than the RRP. Its just a case of demand & supply - the high bidders local outlet may be sold out, or they think they will get it cheaper from Ebay...... Of course bidding frenzy can play a role too What a lot of sellers do is find an item that is very cheap, say on Amazon, list it without buying it,then when it has sold, order one & get it sent direct to the buyers address Not the way I would ever work, but it happens
feemcg
I got a cube shade even though I didn't order a run - sent it to a forum member for nothing , would never have occurred to me to sell it on ebay!
Egluntyne
People get caught up in the "must have it at all costs....I won't be beaten" syndrome. I recently paid a silly amount of money for a Mark 1 Eglu....but it was Yellow!! I tell myself it will become a collectors item.
One Man Banned
I think a bit of hysteria kicks in with some people I've been looking at some Denby china, and keep getting outbid - there's a lovely large platter for sale, seconds quality, thats more expensive than the first quality from Denby's website as they have a sale on! A fool and his money are soon parted, and all that A xx
craftyhunnypie
Ebay is like a competititon or gambling to some people. They get so engrossed that they will not be beaten. I once sold a load of craft stuff that I no longer needed & it fetched £80 +. I was sooo embarrassed that I thre in extra stuff. People are ridiculous! My best sale was a teapot that I bought from a tacky shop on holiday for about £1.50. I sold it for £16 to a Norwegian. It really tickled me. People are crazy when it comes to bidding. I very often, if I want something - look for buy it now & just get it. I can't always stand the bidding thing. My hubby sold a rusted up piece of junk once that was in one of his sheds. A London museum bought it, as apparently it was a missing part of an old fashioned computer ( one of those sort that used to take up a whole room). It was very old & collectable & brought a few hundred pounds. Hubby was well chuffed! He also sold some valves from valve radios that fetched a ridiculous price. It's crazy is ebay - but I do like it. My favourite purchase is some russian wibbly wobbly dancing dolls. Their little bodies & heads wobble and they have their little hand in the air. So cute! sparkleeeeee
yes it does get mad on e-bay. i saw the shade yesterday and the clips and couldnt believe how much they went for . i have sold things on e-bay for more than i paid new, i mainly sell baby stuff and buggies. i have got some really good bargains as well. i bought a new style nipple feeder glug with the grub and shade for £23+£5post which was a bargain. i also bought a mountain buggy not available in the uk for £90 which would have gone for about £200 if eastenders hadnt been on at the same time as the auction end, about five minutes after eastenders finished i had loads of e-mails asking me if i would sell it on to them for quite a bit more money than i had paid but i wanted to keep it. i must admit i have bought a few bargains on e-bay and sold them on when i had finished with them and made a good profit. i always seem to spend it again. when boots had their online 75% off sale a couple of weeks ago i bought my little boy some brio network for his birthday in a few weeks. i must admit that i got a bit carried away and have loads of it (i cant resist a bargain!! ) i am not sure if he will use it all but i might keep some back and stick it on e-bay if he doesnt need it as it is still full price on there. moochoo
I noticed that item had been sold for more than the rrp. The run clips were also selling for way above the price in the Omlet shop. Nutters the lot of 'em!
Olly
I think the trouble is that when you get outbid, it becomes almost personal. If you're a bit competitive (and I hold my hand up to this ) there's a huge temptation to bid just another £1.00, just another, and so on, and try and time it so that your bid is the last! I always decide at the beginning what is the maximum that I'm willing to pay for an item, and stop there - and I do usually check what an item costs commercially, if it's something new. I think people just associate eBay with bargains, and don't stop to think. It's good if you're selling though!
redfrock
What sets are you collecting. We only collect the Arabesque stuff but I want to get some of the current Jet Stripes range, some large cups and saucers to use with the coffee machine. A xx TK Maxx had that range in a month or so ago - we were eyeing up but with OH's ability to drop and smash things I have to stick to boring old white becasue it is easy to add to
craftyhunnypie
I admit - It's great if you are selling! I put all my partylite stuff on the week before last from when I used to be a consultant & it made me a very pretty packet! I've still got some more to go on, but I hate doing all the photographs for ebay! Unpacking it, displaying it nice & then packing it all away again, just for a photo. I also hate weighing & working out what postage will be. But I love watching the bids roll in & how many watchers there are etc. I must get some stuff on later ready for the bank holiday weekend!!! Martin B
I'm in a huge mood with ebay today! I was outbid in the last 5 seconds on a quail book. I hate it when that happens!
