I pick her up tomorrow. Then Bluey says she used to have one in her loft!:cry::cry:

Never mind - this is 20 minutes away to collect. I was the only bidder - I think it was a good price though - I did have an upper limit - never got to that, so I'm happy. I'll know if I need spares tomorrow. She looks like she runs OK but the proof will be in the pudding when I pick her up.

She's 9th October 1939 up to the end of the year, next allotment started from January. Singer 99K which means she was made in Kilbowie, Clydebank. They made millions of these machines over the years - then they added electricity and made millions more. Have found this little history lesson very interesting. I would love to have a treadle one day - like my mum and my nan had - and part exchanged for modern electric ones. I loved my mum's treadle - was so upset when I came home one day and it had gone.

Sooooo if I can't find out the name of the original owner - or even the previous person who was using her, then I thought I'd name her Daisy. But as she's Scottish I feel Flora would probably fit just nicely.

Yes I am a very sad person!

Thank you - I'm looking forward to hassle free straight line stitching. And I like the idea of tinkering with the screwdriver and the oil can! Funny how things go full circle. The advances that are made with technology but then the old comes up trumps. And a plus is that you can play when there's a power cut or OH whinges about saving energy!!!

My mum bought me one of those when I was learning, she put it in the garage when I left home which flooded and damage was too much to rescue it. She had a singer with treadle, (it belonged to my great grandmother) which my brother now has although he has never used it  . We were given a choice of one item we wanted when anything happened to my parents and that is what he chose.

 *sniggers and chortles*

Here she is with the windy bit. I've put her away until the new bottle of sewing machine oil arrives. It says old oil deteriorates and thickens so decided to discard it just in case. I didn't want to damage her in any way - she might need a bit of a clean up with regard to the cogs and gears because the grease is looking rather old. I have seen that Vaseline is the stuff to use - gentle but good.
