Election Shock!

Recommended Posts

Well, I didn't expect that! Just heard Mrs May outside No 10 and I swear that I could hear the sloshing of the whitewash in the background.

Seriously, this uncertainty is just what we DON'T need right now....I wonder how things will pan out over the coming weeks

Can we move forward with Brexit negotiations or should we put our house in order first...ie; would another election be better or is the current alliance workable? I don't meant to be partizan at all and want to keep individuals political leanings aside but this is such an unusual situation that the mechanics of the situation are very complicated!

I think it is a scary time, especially of you are a gay disabled person. Just as people are feeling like they are equals, along comes a party who from the sounds of things, will not be walked over like Lib Dems were, and have very extreme views. I am more frightened of the DUP than I was of Ukip, and they scared me a fair bit.

In answer to your question, I would hope they would get the country in order before even trying to deal with Brexit.

As far as I am concerned May is a narcissistic, ego driven, power mad demagogue, and the sooner she is gone for good the better. :x

As for this unholy union between BluKip and the DUP, I cannot even use the kind of language on this forum that I used earlier.

I'm working class, from a minority, and I have a long-term health issue, voting Conservative would have been political self-harm for me anyway, but I'm even more concerned at this latest revelation. Particularly as she now apparently wants to control the internet and s"Ooops, word censored!" our human rights.

My partner and I have both felt so 'betrayed' over Brexit (both lived and worked in the EU, and have many friend and family there) and this we've started talking about leaving the country. From our perspective the last year has just felt like one violation after another.

And that is all I shall say on the matter because I got so angry earlier I was actually shaking. :?

I'm a Conservative voter. There's nothing I can do about that, it's the way I'm wired and it suits the way I travel through my life. So there's no point trying to persuade me otherwise.

I don't like TM either. She will have to listen to other people now.

There is a chance that a weak Tory government could be a good thing. It depends on our MPs. If they're prepared to put their ideologies to one side and work together for the good of Britain. Greater good and all that jazz. In a grown up world a balanced parliament could mean everyone's voice is heard and compromises could mean a good deal. But we all know that won't happen....opinions and policies will be blocked and the somewhat grubby looking Lily Allen will organise more protests.

I like to try and pull out some positives when I can, this is a tough one  I do think it's good for people in Britain to learn more about the DUP; it's style, origins and beliefs. There has been a great lack of understanding about the complexities of politics and life in Northern Ireland.

Set against that is my very great fear that by ripping through the Good Friday agreement the way Theresa May has in forming a coalition with the DUP she may destroy the peace process  she is either very evil in being prepared to risk renewed conflict and deaths by removing the very basis of the peace process or she's a former Home Secretary and PM completely ignornant of what is in the Good Friday agreement. :?

It's a shame Arlene Foster is not an MP, she may be tough and uncompromising but she is a much more reasonable person than the DUP MPs and it is them not Arlene who will be physically in Westminster propping up TM.

looks like a return to the '70's with elections every year or twice a year

If I remember right the last time We had this coalition it barely lasted the year

first thing TM needs to do is fire the clown that advised a snap election 10 days before the first meeting with EU for brexit and not to attend any TV debaits

Looking back, the whole thing seemed to be very personality based and (Corbyn v May) I think that was a mistake....there should have been more info on actual policies but it all seemed to happen so quickly.

Like Patsylabrador, I am a lifelong Tory voter and also voted in favour of Brexit as I felt that the original agreement, based on trade, had morphed into something rather more dictatorial. However, personal politics aside, I think that TM was very arrogant to call the election so quickly and now really cannot stay on. Equally, it would seem sensible to postpone Brexit negotiations....coalitions never seem to last long or work well so I guess there will be another election coming up before the end of the year  I wonder how much staging an election actually costs.....

don't think Brexit can be postponed article 50 only has a 2 year option and it'll take 2 years to hammer out the exit details and if EU has it's way that will have to happen first before any trade deals can be negotiated and those can and have taken years to work out
