sadieatthebridge
All of our chicken bumpf is in a Keter plastic storage shed. We used to keep our pellets in one of these from Ikea: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/small-storage-organisers/waste-sorting-bins/sortera-waste-sorting-bin-with-lid-white-art-10255897/'>http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/small-storage-organisers/waste-sorting-bins/sortera-waste-sorting-bin-with-lid-white-art-10255897/ but the slugs kept getting in. I stuck copper tape all around but it didn't seem to make any difference. We then switched to one of these from Ikea: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/small-storage-organisers/waste-sorting-bins/ but it hasn't made any difference. The chickens free-range during the day and frequent the chicken storage shed (for mealworms and corn ) so I assume that slug pellets are out of the question. Any words of wisdom or suggestions? TIA! Daphne
Try a galvanised metal bin, never had aproblem with slugs and it keeps rats at bay as well, they can't chew through
mullethunter
I just use a normal plastic dustbin with a lid that clips on and I've never had any problems.
Millie-Annie
I used plastic refuse bins too, with the lids that clip on. I have had a horrendous problem with slugs this year. I found a load in my mealworms and they are all in the bird feeders. Horrible things. Like wasps what is the point?

Luvachicken
Slugs slither through lots of tiny spaces, especially the teeny tiny gap in my patio door It is amazing what they can fit through How do they fit under my heavy, metal watering can for instance, when there is hardly any gap underneath ? Not sure how you can stop them getting in your bin though, sorry
Cat tails
I have one of those water tight screw top bins. Although I keep most of their food in my living room next to the back door.
sadieatthebridge
Thanks everyone. I guess I didn't hold out much hope for the metal bins being slug-proof, especially as the little blighters somehow get through UPVC doors into our conservatory. How do they do that?! Might upgrade to a metal bin, and shove a brick on top. It's worth a try!
Egluntyne
I keep my chicken food in metal dustbins. I can't recall ever encountering a slug inside the bins. I anchor the tops down with a bungee cord.

How do they do that?! through the drainage slots then there's nearly always a gap somewhere around the inside of the door especially if the doors only on the latch
