Thanks Louise I'm just off to look in the supermarket for Quandong I notice that it is supposed to be garnished with mistletoe berries - I thought they were poisonous? Louise
Ummmm they are Maybe it is a bizarre hoax and the BBC has been had I wouldn't eat cat or dog or any pure carnivore anyway I am not speciesist I just don't fancy the idea of eating carnivores
Lesley
I couldn't eat a carnivore either - I only just manage to eat meat we've grown ourselves
Mel (& Paul)
Yuk! (to eating carnivores not Lesley!). As a meat eater you shouldnt be too precious about eating meat that is raised for eating - after all we eat cows / sheep that are raised for us to eat - so shouldnt balk at dog etc., but I still do
Louise
That is what I mean about being speciesist Mel If it has been raised for meat I have no problems with it but it just doesn't feel right to me to eat carnivores (I know chickens will eat meat I just try not to think too much ) I would eat horse and I can feel a tirade coming at me if it was raised purely for eating I wouldn't if it was someones retired pet
Lesley
but cows and sheep are herbivores -carnivores are a different matter. As a vegetarian for over 25 years, I always used to say that meat is meat, be it rat, cat or dog ............. but having thought about it, I wouldn't eat carnivores unless I really had to. The Dogmother
I'm in the same boat as Louise, I eat meat if I know where it has come from and am happy with the way it has been reared. I have eaten horse in the past when I was travelling in the middle east. I was also veggie for a while when I couldn't source meat that I was happy to eat, but I got the blood lust when I was pregnant I don't think I'd eat a carnivore though. Going back to cats.. when she was little in the war and they'd run out of meat on their small holding, my mother was sent to the butchers for a rabbit and told to ask for it with the head on as they sometimes sold cat as rabbit! I am sure that it wa just a rumour.
