Can you believe they may be involved?

Recommended Posts

i'm sorry, to sound so old fashioned, but there don't seem to be many safeguards in place there and it's an accident waiting to happen.

No, not old fashioned at all, just sensible.

We had an incident over the summer holidays actually.

Devon goes onto a chat forum linked to her favourite band, which I do know about & she does show me what has been posted.

However, she arranged to meet another forum member in Reading one day shock:

She went into town with a freind & met up with this girl (it WAS a girl thankfully) & didn't tell me about it - I found out by default.

Needless to say,I was livid & she got a good taliking to about safety (I had spoken to her about it before......................................)

She is usually a very sensible girl, but I think got swept up in the excitemnt of a meet up with another band fan

It's been reassuring to me to read all your safeguards with your kids. I do worry that I've held my oldest back or been too strict with him. He went into Leicester City centre on his own on Saturday for the first time ever, on the bus (he has been with friends before). He's 16 on Thursday! But I feel he has the rest of his life to grow up and be independent, and he is by no means naiive. At least he isn't out at night standing on the street corners like most of his peers.

Cinnamon's story could happen to any of us. Young people are too trusting without realising how much they are being taken in. Any one of our children could do the same - and they wouldn't tell their parents because they know what we'd say!

 Blimey Louise - better be careful, the West is FULL of dodgy characters - I should know :lol: .

Personally I would never leave Ben and Joe, for all the reasonable and unreasonable reasons that cross your mind  . I hope Maddie is found either way - and am not 100% sure what the parents involvement is. Regarding internet - Club Penguin is great, and both boys will play on it. They have msn links to their cousins in London, and do video links with them. However, their internet access is limited and monitored by us. 8)

:shock::shock::shock:

You would never catch any of us meeting strangers from the net

I know its different for teenagers but it did make me chuckle

I still have a laugh about you and I meeting up with Shona earlier this year Louise - and her OH phoned to make sure she was OK and that I was female and not a male Leslie

Exactly.

Devon KNEW that she was doing something that is A: stupid & B: forbidden, which is why she didn't tell me.

Of course, that just made it worse

Silly girl. She has learnt a valuable lesson, & we as parents have learnt that however much we drum something into one of our children, they still have the ability to do something really stupid, as do most teens :?

Alexander has use of our email account (we all share the same one in our house), & our computer with internet access is in the living room, so we can always see what is going on on it. He has a laptop which was given to him over the summer (a Sony Waio 8) ) but it does not have internet access, & was given to him by his friend's grandad. It has loads of great stuff left on it by the owner, but unfortunately the sermons that were written on it have gone, but it still has a complete Bible on it with two translation versions :D

I must admit I sometimes forget myself when I am on here, & sometimes tell you more about me than perhaps I should- I know a lot about people on here (especially those of you who have blogs), & although this makes me feel that I do "know" you, in fact you are all people whom I have never physically met (but I do hope to do so, one day!)

You never know who is reading & watching this forum... & I am grateful for the way it is moderated. It's like having a big group of friends in which there is always someone around to have a chat with 8)

As for Alexander going out- he goes to a club for 4-11 year olds at church on Wednesday night, is is involved in a practise at church for "Colby" which he is at now until 7.30, he goes to Sunday school & has his friends there, who I would rather he mixed with than some of the children around here, purely because I know their parents stand for the same values that we do.

I read a book recently by Rob Parsons called Teenagers, what every Parent HAS to Know, which I found very helpful ( I think it is good to be prepared!) He has a Christian charity called Care for the Family, based in Cardiff. He said that we need to keep our teens busy!

As for the Madeleine case, I need to say that what I wrote on it earlier in this thread seems to me now to be unfair, I really don't know what has gone on & I hope & pray that Maddie is found soon so that the case can be closed.

Thanks to the mods for closing the thread yesterday while they considered it continuing.

Phew that was a lucky escape Sarah, it could so easily have gone bad though.

Rosie used to be on a CBBC message board, which is heavily moderated, but think she finds it a bit young now. She now goes on club penguin, which is another safe site, and this forum sometimes too.

club penguin is 8)8)8)

headlines on sky news -

full DNA match of maddie found in boot of hire car hired by the Mccanns 5 weeks after her disappearance. :?

I'm being devils advocate now - what are the chances that the car hired by the McCanns and where they have found the DNA match was hired by the person who snatched Maddie 25 days earlier?? I know I'm pulling at straws but I cannot believe they'd harm their own daughter.

I think they have a few cells, not a great puddle of blood or whatever from a body. A few cells can easily have been put there by cross contamination.

I was listening to a scenes of crime expert yesterday on Sky News and he said he couldn't believe the blatant mistakes in evidence gathering made by the Portugese police.

eg...the officer dusting the shutter for finger prints...she came in, plonked her bag down on a wall and started dusting.

He said:

1.In the first instance the scene should have been cordoned off.

2. It should have been photographed thoroughly.

3. Then samples should have been taken for DNA

4. Only then it should have been dusted for finger prints.

5. She put her bag down on a site which was part of a crime scene, a) masking or blurring what could have been crucial evidence and b) creating a potential source of cross contamination.

6. Although she had a white overall and gloves on, she did not have the hood up and her long hair was blowing all over the place likely to be contaminating the crime scene.

He said it was a joke....or would be if the circumstances were not so tragic, and as this was one 5 minute slot of the investigation, heaven knows what other mistakes have been made.

Even if they are charged, they will have strong grounds for appeal.

I'll echo Egluntine's observations - the slackness of the protuguese investigations has been tragic and caused needless strees and grief to the McCanns.

I hear on the wireless this morning that the aythorities have made a U turn and are now downplaying the importance of any DNA evidence found in the car. Perhaps they have realised that it could've been left by contact with the baby buggy, bags, Maddies clothes, blankets, Maddies toy... the possibilities are endless. I made a point of watching the news last night, and a British DNA expert was very careful to play down the significance of any DNA found in the car.

This whole thing is a blooming farce, and I am so angry about the incompetence being shown. Sorry, it's not good to rant so early in the morning!

I heard on the news this morning that the McCanns local Social Services are now going to speak to them about the twins.

Apparentley it is their policy to 'investigate' when both parents are inplicated in a crime.

Talk about putting them under even more stress.

just catching up with the news on Sky. Apparently it was an 88% match...not a 99% one what they were saying last night

However, they are saying that so much hair of Madeleines was found in the boot (where the spare wheel is kept) it could not have been transferred off a blanket or clothes...it had to be a body.

Statement from the portuguese police coming shortly apparently. :?

Im gripped to this case now.
