Richard
Wow - have you heard the These Streets album by Paolo Nutini, specifically the track New Shoes. Not only is it a fantastic track, it just has to be a theme tune for my missus - 'hey I've put some new shoes on and suddenly everything is right ... Cinnamon
Its brill, isn't it? I love the album too, & Paolo is a bit of a babe
Guest
We saw Pablo Numpty when he supported the Rolling Stones in Sheffield. We had taken the children to this and were hoping to get Feeder like at the Twickenham concert He staggered on stage with a pint and proceeded to play to a highly unimpressed audience I mean fancy being drunk on stage at a Stones concert
Egluntyne
Never 'eard of him. A new pair of shoes does the trick though!
Richard
We saw Pablo Numpty I mean fancy being drunk on stage at a Stones concert Mind you, I thnk I'd need to be drunk to go to a Stones concert now. Sorry but they are a bit, well how do I put this? Old news? I liked them in the 60's when I was a teenager but times have moved on. I went to see Dire Straits live when they were past it - rubbish. I went to see Fleetwood Mac live after the Tango in Paris album - rubbish. Saw Amy Winehouse recently (when she turned up) - great, and Beth Orton - great. Newton Faulkner - OK. So I've come to the conclusion that I'll just remember thebands from the days when I thought they were great, and I'll go and see the new ones! What I think the Stones put on amazing live concerts, I always go to them if I can, and I am no spring chicken It is great to see ol' Mick strutting his stuff and Keef with his fag and bottle of Jack Daniels, he always looks as though he spent the night in a cardboard box great stuff Tessa
Guest
Well said Tessa I'm old and I like old stuff PS I think Pablo sang 'New Shoes' when we saw him. I don't think I had my hearing aid in though then and the memory's not as good now
Richard
OK, point taken. But I'm getting a lovely picture of the pair of you, 20 years from now, sitting in your arm chairs in a big hall somewhere, watching Mick Jagger singing from a wheelchair, Charlie Watts propped up by a carer, Keef with his zimmer frame and nebuliser ..... While I'm somewhere else, grooving to the latest ... Oh well, perhaps not. I still think there's something sad about elderly rockers performing old stuff live. I think its better kept as a memory from the days of their prime. Just look at Rod Stewart - a rather wizened elderlyish bloke, admittedly with a leggy blonde by his side, but really a pale shadow of You wear it well days. I went to see the Albion Band a few years ago - Ashley Hutchins I remember as a founder of Fairport, and I saw him with them and then at Cambridge Folk with an early Albion. When I saw him recently he was wearing an old suit, signing CDs in a tiny venue in Boston, Lincs - really sad after the heady days when I saw them in Glasgow Appollo with Sandy Denny and Trevor Lucas etc. Life is cruel

I think it is amazing that some of these 'elderly rockers' are still alive and able to perform so well, considering the amount of substances most of them have ingested or stuck up their noses I went into raptures when Pink Floyd regrouped for that Live 8 concert a couple of years ago, took me right back to me yoof I will be delighted if I am still alive in 20 years time and be able to stagger to a rock concert Tessa
Richard
PS I think Pablo sang 'New Shoes' when we saw him. I don't think I had my hearing aid in though then and the memory's not as good now Listen to it again - with or without your hearing aid! (I know I posted this before, but there's been a lot of posts since then and people may have missed it). there's also something terrific about a guy with an Italian name speaking with such a terrific Scottish accent! talking of which, anyone listen to Karine Polwart - brilliant, and with an accent that comes through in her singing! feemcg
When I was a student midwife I lived near his family's chip shop in Paisley - I was too lazy to cook and used to go there for my favourite student meal of smoked sausage supper and a Topic

I really will have to pass on this Richard, I really dislike this type of music, I do like some modern music though, Madness, Squeeze and a very strange young whipper snapper called Boy George, he dresses like a GIRL Seriously, it would be a very boring world if we all liked the same thing wouldn't it Keep on Rockin'
feemcg
Egluntine - no, not deep-fried. I've not tried deep-fried Mars Bar either, or ever seen them for sale.

Richard
That new shoes song is really old now (and rubbish)! Richard you're going to have to get a bit more "with it" if you want to be down with the kids... I! I am well and truly put in my place. I will creep away and hide (with my iPod, listening to Lamb and Beth Orton - - and not old Madness tr*pe). If I am going to listen to my old stuff, at least I listen to worthwhile music - Supertramp, Kinks, Strawbs ... quality stuff! Isn't it great when folk argue about music? Its just great that we don't all like the same stuff - that would be really boring. I respect and appreciate other people's musical tastes .... except for the nutters that like opera or punk! The Dogmother
I cannot imagine how people can be bothered to go fishing but equally I have much scorn poured upon my interest of trains... Dan - I love trains too, but your 'habit' IS a tad excessive Talking of 'habits' and music... did anyone see the pix of Amy Whine-House in the papers this morning... such a shame
Richard
We overlap with Supertramp and The Kinks (LOVE The Kinks)! I don't know any Strawbs - is there an album you can recommend to me? (I have never heard of Lamb - are they new? I really am not very "with it" at all)... ... Yay. Strawbs. the best Strawbs album, imho, was 'From the Witchwood' As well as Hudson, Cousins and Ford it had Rick Wakeman on keyboards - and on The hangman and the papist he was awesome. There is a 'best of' CD around wihc is OK, but folk tend to think of them for their hits - Part of the Union and Lay down which are fine but really a bit periferal to their good stuff. Lamb are brilliant, but an aquired taste and a bit 'different' - Lou Rhodes is a folkie type singer (think eLiza McCarthy but very different with Lamb. Several good albums (Lamb, Fear of Fours) but I'd go for What Sound. Or maybe the 'best kept Secrets' album. If you want to listen to one track, listen to Gabriel. Ain't Nobody Here
Ooh, Strawbs - that takes me back . I grew up with them - my brother (4 yrs older) was a big fan
Popcorn
I heard loads of people on Radio WM complaining about the show the other night - she threw a lit fag into the crowd and called them a rude word... Jules loves Amy Winehouse so I'm glad we didn't go... Not much of a role model is she at the moment (but a terrific talent - I really like her). Her brother has made a plea apparently to go easy on her as she's going through a particularly hard time at the moment. I must admit, I'd find people booing me hard to handle too.
