theherd123
I LOVE SPROUTS. They don't need to be overcooked - that's why so many people dislike them I think. Im sorry but no matter which way sprouts are cooked they are just sooooo wrong!
Ain't Nobody Here
I love sprouts! Just not the way MIL cooks them - to within an inch of their little leafy lives

Richard
You will have noticed that I haven't contributed to this thread lately. I'm afraid I just cannot converse with folk who don't appreciate the nutritional value of the humble sprout -not to mention the flavour and all round goodness of this vegetable. Folk are just too posh these days - living on things like calebrise and mange tout (no doubt I've spelt these wrong) and other such stuff from forring parts. These nowt wrong with sprouts. They put hairs on your chest, make your hair curl, make you brainy, makes you attractive to the opposite sex, and all the other things your Mum, who always knows best, told you they would do (OK she didn't tell you the last one but, trust me ...) Sprouts are brilliant. Last word on the subject - no disagreement allowed. edited to correct spelling mistake for clever clogs Edited December 14, 2007 by Guest

Ain't Nobody Here
calebrise and mange tout Mangey touts have reached these parts but what on earth is calebrise? I consider myself to be fairly well informed vegetabally but have never come across that

Rhapsody
You will never move me on my anti-sprouts stand. As the family Xmas cook I will happily accomodate vegetarian and alcohol-free options but I refuse point blank to let the Green Boils From Satan's Bottom in my kitchen. If they're sooooo great why do people only eat them at Xmas hmmmmm?
Lesley
erm........ we eat them as soon as the frost has been on them........ for as long as we have them in the garden or there are still English ones at the farm shops!!! I do love your description though - I might just call them at the table on Christmas Day - the littlies would love that!
Egluntyne
the Green Boils From Satan's Bottom i You are a caution! They are nice shredded and stirfried with garlic and ginger. Try them that way.
Laura & CTB
They are nice shredded and stirfried with garlic and ginger. No amount of garlic or ginger will ever disguise the taste though!!

Richard
If they're sooooo great why do people only eat them at Xmas hmmmmm? We eat them at other times. But I don't have a lot of luck growing them in the veg garden unfortunately. The pests get them. I've given up with cabbage and broccoli as well - the cabbage whites just devour them; I won't spray and don't have the time to pick the caterpillars off. Oh well. Thats an interesting way to serve them Egluntine, I do that with cabbage quite sucessfully. However I shall not be moved. I defy anybody not to like this recipe and it contains sprouts! My best friend's Soup. 2 tbsp olive oil 1 onion finely chopped 2 cloves garlic finely chopped 1 tsp ginger finely chopped 1 green chilli finely chopped 1lb Brussels sprouts (prepared weight) 1.5 pints veg stock half a can coconut cream juice of half a lime (+ rest if wanted) good handful chopped coriander as garnish at end. Fry onion, garlic, ginger & chilli till soft but not brown Add Brussels Sprouts, toss around for a minute or 2 cover with stock and simmer till sprouts are soft. Blend, return to pan and add coconut milk and lime juice. Season to taste, gently re-heat and add chopped coriander just before serving. Fantabulosa It's a pity it hasn't got an egg in it or I would have put it on the Wiki.
