Cinnamon
The only fizzy we use is tonic water for my G&T
Laura & CTB
CTB gets through at least a two litre bottle every day He has done for the past twenty years or so - I hate to think what his insides are like (and dont even start me off about the costs involved per month)

Charlottechicken
Many years ago when I was at school, my science teacher used to tell us he left an extracted tooth in a glass of cola over the weekend and when he came to check on it on the following Monday, the tooth had dissolved It cleans coins too. I always thought that was true - I'm assuming it is? . Don't like coke/pepsi anyway (except as a mixer with alcohol ). Yep, he read an article about it and tried it out apparently (we are talking donkey's years ago here!), being a science teacher and all, and was horrified that it worked I understand it does the same to bones too I don't have fizzy drinks in the house on a regular basis, I stick to Rocks cordial or home made stuff. Ziggy
Well... just to be the devil here... I grew up on the stuff... I don't approve of my parents letting me drink coke and nothing else ('no you can't have orange juice, it's too expensive, have coke instead') for the first 20 years of my life, but to be fair, my teeth are reasonably fine, and I've never been particularly overweight... neither have I got any strange health problems... I don't drink it as much now, but really that's all I drank for all the years I spent back home with my parents, and it doesn't seem to have done me too much harm... I wouldn't encourage anyone to live on this too, but that's mostly cause it doesn't have anything good in it (unlike milk, fresh juice and so on) rather than because it's harmful... I never drank the diet versions (I prefer to take in sugar than aspartame), just the sugar full stuff...
Charlottechicken
I know people who eat nothing but junk food, no veg, and have great skin It's a little annoying Anyway, you'd have a job keeping hold of a mouthful of Pepsi all weekend to prove it doesn't damage your teeth I agree with you on the sugar version of pop Ziggy, I won't touch anything with artificial sweetners
Shirl
At this point I guess I should confess to be a diet caffeine free coke addict . I must have drunk at least 2 litres today. I've known this for quite some time but with 2 LOs making and drinking coffee is a luxury I rarely get and I don't like water or squash. rachel19
The reason it's so good at dissolving stuff is mainly due to it's very acidic pH - not far off stomach level acidity I dont drink it often and I wont go anywhere near diet drinks of any variety as im sure the sugar alternatives are bound to give you some form of cancer - at least the actual sugar is mostly natural
UkButton
Its worth bearing in mind that this will be used on an industrial level and may have many perposes. We use chemicals in our process to clean and carry out other tasks and we are a food factory so it needs to be looked at in context.
Olly
Aspartame gives me headaches, so I don't drink anything with it in. BUT ... interesting point about the acidity, I have heard from several people that if you're travelling and you drink Coke, you are much less likely to get stomach upsets; not sure how it works, but it kills bacteria or something. I don't touch the stuff, personally!

The Dogmother
Warm, unfizzed coke with a pinch of salt is often recommended to rehydrate when you're abroad and have a tummy bug. I had amoebic dysentry while travelling in Africa 20-odd years ago, and the only 'clean' liquid that I could get was coke (it is everywhere, however remote!). The caffeine keeps you going and the sugar and salt help to rehydrate.
Karen & co.
Flat coke or lemonade are good for you if you have D and V, must admit it's the only time I buy it karen x
Louise
Slightly O/T but I have to tell you this one One of the Parasitologists I know was asked by a bottling company to do some test for them There is a sheep parasite cryptosporidium that was the centre of a water borne health scare a while ago in the Glasgow area and this bottling plant uses the water from this supply to make up all of its drinks Basically it gets the concentrates from various companies and dilutes it down with water and bottles it before it is sent for packaging and they wanted to know if this parasite could persist in the finished product To do this they sent him various alcoholic drinks which he then spiked with live parasite left for a while then tried to recover The only thing that killed them was alcopops which he puts down to the pH level of the drinks and in his words anything that does that to crypto has no business in your stomach I am not going to tell you the plant or the drinks involved as there is no risk this was a what if situation and they have installed a filtering device now that stops this anyway
The Dogmother
Just goes to show, doesn't it? I'll have to tell Phil that - he's fond of alco-pops!
Louise
He is a strange chap sometimes but very honest - ask Shona what he is like he took her chooks when she moved He was gobsmacked at how easilly they were killed in the stuff because nothing kills crypto he even bleaches the parasites to get clean preps for spiking and they just swim through it
