Should I take him to a doctor?

Recommended Posts

Poor little chap.

Will he try a spoonful of icecream?

I might manage some icecream :lol:

Its our take away night tonight, normally I feed him something else and we have it once he has gone to bed but pizza is his fav food in the world so he might manage to eat a little. Then again the other night when he didnt want to eat I used a precious egg of missy's to make pancakes for him with syrup and cream and he didnt even taste it. :(

Once the other half gets home from work Im going to pop to the shops and get as much medication as I can give him. As its only today that I started him on calpol as he didnt have a fever and I thought it was just a cold and calpol wouldnt help.

Might see what other treats I can get him.

Bath idea is good, I will have to try that too.

Here he is from his fixed position where he has spend the whole day. I have never known him to stay still for longer than 5 mins let alone a whole day

Well last night I had to force some cough medicen into him and then when we carried him up to bed he threw up  He slept in with me again and today all his lips are dry and blistered and he is looking awfull. Still not wanting to eat, so this will be his 5th day of not wanting to eat, although at least I have him drinking a little.

I have just called the emergency on call doctor team and someone will be calling me back within the hour.

Good for you - I'm sure the doctor team with have some good advice and help to put your mind at rest.

I know how awful it is when they are sick, although I enjoy it a little as James turns into a cuddly little boy instead of a wriggly one!!!

Well were back.

He has now got a temperature and has got a chest infection and is dehydrated. I have got antibiotics for him and I have to get a teaspoon of fluid into him every 5 mins, they are going to call back at 2:30 and see if he is putting out a bit more urine. If he is sick or not weeing eno0ugh then he has to go into hospital this evening.

Oh dear. Poor little mite.

I am so relieved that you took him to the doc.

My son was once very droopy and miserable, nothing you could put your finger on, and no cough, but he had a chest infection.

Once the antibiotics kick in he'll rally I'm sure.

Now that he has a high temperature he might acceptlice lollies etc.

All the best.

Poor wee thing - I hope he picks up on his own. Getting fluids into him would make a big difference but it's so difficult. My eldest daughter, when she was nearly 2, became so dehydrated over a 3 day period (with D+V) that she was like a rag doll and couldn't lift her head. She was admitted for IV fluids and I'll never forget waking up at 5 in the morning, beside her hospital bed, with her singing ba ba blacksheep :D - what a difference the fluids had made!

Oh, Cat, the poor little lad :( . It can be so difficult to judge when to take sick littlies in to see the doctor can't it :? , especially given that waiting rooms in GP surgeries are usually a hotbed of infections, and not comfortable places for poorly children to wait, but generally I reckon if Mum is genuinely concerned (she knows her child and their behaviour so much better than anyone else) then it's time to make that appt.

There's so much good advice here though, calpol, fluids and rest are usually fantastic at helping children recover, and now with antibiotics on top, I hope he'll be back to his normal self pretty quick.
