In which case, you know you'll be totally ignored by all Sheila!

I have the answer

Having just visited Isla Margarita (sp) a small island in the Caribbean just north of Venezuela, I can tell you that it costs just 7 cents a litre for petrol plus you can buy a small beach condo for around £20,000. 8) Makes you realise just how much we are getting ripped off living in this country

The only thing you have to put up with is the regular Sunday night power failure and the water collector on your roof to enable you to wash!

It's been creeping up here too all the time, Tesco's is currently at 104.9 with the other's all following suit.

When we went up to Alvechurch to view the car on Sunday we filled up at the garage just before the M42 Hopwood Roundabout at 102.9, so I filled the Ka up there when we picked it up yesterday :D

I think the Treasury ought to drop the duty for a while, esp if a recession is on the way.....

(edited to take the £ signs off )

I have a adult trike to do my shopping in, i can easily fit a weeks shopping in the basket on the back. It s a bit like this one http://www.missioncycles.co.uk/TRIKEDETAILS.asp?Products_Action=Find('ProductID','16')&Products_Position=FIL%3ACategory%3D%27AdultTrike%27ORD%3AABS%3A7KEY%3A16PAR%3A

I'm afraid i'm a bit anti-car, although OH has one. I made a conscious decision not to learn to drive and am lucky that we have a very good public transport system here. I know some people have no choice but if high petrol prices mean that some people switch to public transport then i'm all for it.

On the way to school nearly every car we pass only has one person in it. a whole queue of traffic usually equals one bus load. When we imagine the queue of traffic gone and just one bus in it's place it makes a real difference. Our walk to school would be safer, we'd be able to hear bird song and wouldn't be able to "taste" the car fumes every morning.

I also have an Ikea shopping trolley, quite funky and i wouldn't be without it!

My car is being converted to LPG as I type!!

The car was 70GBP to fill up!! I had a LPG mondeo before and that cost about 30 GBP to fill and traveled about 300 miles. As well as that I will pay 10 GBP a year congestion charge in London. Also my car tax will reduce dramatically. All in all a good think and yes it is better for the environment as well. No more guilt for driving around.

I managed to get the conversion done for a cheap 1350 GBP after playing one garage off against another. :D:D:D:D:D:D

Helly Welly,

I love your trike. :D I've seen a similar one in our local bike shop and really like it. How does it compare to a conventional bike. Does the extra width cause you any problems when riding it along the road or parking it? I really like the idea of getting an adult trike.

I dont drive as it's too expensive but the buses are getting increasingly expensive too - £1.70 for a single journey or £3.20 for a day saver in Brighton! We now have a very cool rival bus company called the Big Lemon which is much cheaper and runs on used cooking oil 8) Cheaper and better for the environment.....also smelled like popcorn the other day which was nice :D

The problem with politicians banging on about Public Transport is that it really only works in cities and large towns.

That leaves those of us who live in rural areas being hit with the same sledge-hammer as everyone else :? No matter how much tax is added to fuel prices.... we still have to drive. I drive a very fuel efficient diesel Mini but Carl needs a 4x4. He gets lumped in with the Chelsea Tractor brigade even though he needs it to cope with pulling the stock trailer and moving animals etc.

It would be near impossible for me to catch a bus from here - the nearest bus route is almost a mile away and has about two buses a day, we're 7 miles from town, 2 miles from the village. I do ocasionally think I could manage to cycle to the village to collect Lauren and Jake from school but would then have to cycle with them on a major lorry route back home :?

I can also remember when i was about 18 and i would go in the garage and put £2 or £3 worth of petrol in my little mini!!

wouldnt buy a bloomin sandwich in a garage now let alone petrol

Ditto!

Our 1.8l Picasso costs £40+ to fill....and a full tank doesn't last a fortnight

I find it hard to compare to a conventional bike as i've never had one  I actually never learnt to ride :shock: My OH has ridden it and says that it does take some getting used to if you are used to a two wheeler as you can't lean in to the corners etc.

As far as parking is concerned it is no problem. I use bike stands the same as everyone else or a handy lampost. I just have to be slightly more careful that i don't block the pavement but it's never been an issue. I always ride on the road and feel very confident, especially as i'm easier to see  You get the occasional driver who cuts you up but that's the same for all cyclists. Actually, a lot of people assume i'm disabled and so give me plenty of room :D

Be aware that if you do get a trike you will get a lot of attention. Kids tend to make sarky comments but you'll get complete strangers coming up to you to ask about your trike and they invariably love it!

I wouldn't be without it....I LOVE MY TRIKE :D:D:D:D
