Clarabelle
We're so excited - just placed an order for a lovely purple eglu, a Gingernut and a Pepperpot. They're coming on the 25th Feb! As if I needed any proof that my husband is getting into this chicken lark - have a look at my avatar - it's my valentines card from him Just can't wait. My son has already named our girls Annie and Clarabel, not very original I know, but I think they're lovely names anyway.

Clarabelle
I've been having dreams about eglus this last couple of nights, it really has turned into a bit of an obsession! Having read other peoples' posts about delivery time I thought we'd be looking at getting them in March or April, but I think we've been very lucky. Even my husband is excited!! crazygal
obsession- yes. And my husband loves them too (but doesn't agonise over every little thing to do with them like I do!)- he often has a quick peek at them when they are in bed when he gets home from work and does a headcount! As someone else said recently on here other people are always asking about them and want to come round and see (or maybe its the yummy eggs they're after?!). Clarabelle
Everyone is asking for eggs already! I hope we'll have enough to go round. Perhaps we should have gone for 3 hens instead of 2, but I really don't think our garden is big enough. We'll see.....but we are definitely having first dibs! I think we'll probably have lots of visitors after the 25th. Getting carried away here...didn't realise the time. Must go, Pizza Express is calling! little chickadee
I love your avatar too - lucky you having a creative hubby!!! How sweet! My son and I were bouncing up and down while we were waiting for the chook day to come and we had to keep crossing days off the calendar so he could see exactly how long he had left to wait!!!!! Good luck and hope you love it as much as we do!

TAJ
I was even too impatient to wait for an order - hubby went and collected from Omlet the day after ordering and got the girls the day after that, for me the wait would be unbareable! Clarabelle
The avatar is actually a picture of a card my husband bought in Paperchase, so he didn't actually set up the egg cups and eggs. Nevertheless, it was a lot more topical than the card I got him and just the encouragement I needed to get on the phone and order. As for getting a third, I just don't think our garden is big enough for 3 full-grown chickens and am wondering now whether it would be better to get bantams instead. Such a shame that Omlet don't have them as an option. I've just been reading a thread about them and looking at some photos, some of them look so cute. I'm sure my feet will get cold and then warm up again many times before the 25th! Is there anyone out there in east London/South east Essex who breeds bantams and lives near a station or bus stop??!! Ain't Nobody Here
Congratulations on your purple eglu (that's the colour I wanted but they didn't have a reconditioned one . I love my blue one now though ). How big is your garden? I had an email from a chap wanting to come to my Hen Party (no bookings yet ) whose garden was 5 x 8m and was worried it was too small. I measured mine this morning - it's 8 x 8m and I've got 3 hens and a run plus extention. There's plenty of room . Fab avatar, BTW .
Clarabelle
How big is your garden? I had an email from a chap wanting to come to my Hen Party (no bookings yet ) whose garden was 5 x 8m and was worried it was too small. We measured it last week and its 9m x 6m, but that is including the small bit of patio. I'm not sure that we could accommodate an extension to the run without losing a fair bit of our (tiddly) lawn. I guess we can just see how it goes with two and if we get so desperate for more we can sacrifice more of the garden. I want to keep some area for my son to play in though and he has a slide which will be put on the lawn in the summer. If I lived in Edinburgh I would love to come to your hen party, for what it's worth.
Eyren
As for getting a third, I just don't think our garden is big enough for 3 full-grown chickens and am wondering now whether it would be better to get bantams instead. Such a shame that Omlet don't have them as an option. I've just been reading a thread about them and looking at some photos, some of them look so cute. For me, the decision to move over to bantams was mainly because I like to let my chickens free-range, but being an end-of-terrace we have a "right of way" path around the side and back of our garden made of paving slabs with gravel edging, and the bigger girls made a real mess of it Is there anyone out there in east London/South east Essex who breeds bantams and lives near a station or bus stop??!! Bantams seem to be a bit harder to get hold of, and you may find it particularly hard to get hold of POL bantams this early in the year. I was able to get mine in January (from N Essex) only because I wasn't fussed about age - my newbies are between one and two years old. The best places for chickens are often out in the countryside - but if you were desperate, maybe a fellow Omleteer could help (I don't drive, so I'm dependent on my LSH for chicken-shopping!) ?
