Martin B
When you saw this topic heading, you probably thought of Tescos and guess what? My horrofying incident hapened in.... Tescos! I had just been reading my 1st Practical Poultry magazine in the car on the way to the supermarket. When we got in I remembered everything I had read on here about organic and quality produce. Therefore I managed to do a bit of trickery and swap some of the non-organic produce for organic materials, without my parents noticing. We carried on down the chicken section and I just thought about the poor lives they had before they were chopped. My family and I were coming close to the egg section, and I said "I'll go and get the eggs." But then to my horror my Dad said "I've already got them!" I turned back to the trolley and looked at the egss, and on the front in BOLD, BIG letters it said these eggs are from caged hens. I was disgusted! I said " We're not having these, I want to help do my bit to stop Battery eggs and hens being sold as food." I explained to my Dad what the Battery Hens were like, and he said "I know, I used to work at a factory when I was a Kid!" I didn't know what to say, so I just picked up the eggs and replaced them with Free-Range ones, which were only 24p more expensive! I'm just glad there is Free-Range eggs in my fridge tonight. I alos took your advice on the innocent smoothies (100% FRUIT), they're gorgeous. Kind Regards --Martin--

motherhen
Now you can point out to your parents that the sooner you get an eglu, the sooner they can have 'home grown' eggs. Remind them of the benefits of little pets that convert table s"Ooops, word censored!"s into eggs and provide lovely poop for the compost heap

Murdo
You treasure, Martin . Well done! Treasure - they're going to need treasure if he keeps filling the shopping with Innocent smoothies and dropping in free range eggs. ! Perhaps they could sell him. BTW Martin, somewhere on the forum is my argument that the return on investment from an Eglu outperforms a building society or bank. Perhaps you could try that line as well as everything else. Cinnamon
Well done Martin I did one summers work in the battery farm across the road from my house when I was about 14,& it was awful. The noise, heat & smell when you opened the doors was unbelievable. The hens were in very poor condition,& I always had one or two dead ones to deal with. There was a high ration of soft eggs, which were thrown bask to the hens for them to eat. I even had nightmares about it for a while I only lasted a couple of weeks,& I never ate another battery egg since
