chocchick
You know when you see a price advertised for a budget flight, you expect to add on things like tax and it bumps up in price? We we shocked to find that seats were optional with jet2.com and you had to pay extra for having a seat. As you need one we thought this was pretty wrong. The price increased from screen 1 to 2 wth no explanation before tax was even added and there was a "checking in" charge and some that weren't itemised. Needless to say we've complained to advertising standards and are booking through another company.
The Dogmother
Good for you Choccy - that's scandalous!

chelsea
I work for an airline so hear from passengers every day about this. there's not only charges for seats, but baggage, food, check-in,credit cards etc etc on a lot of airlines now. If you go for just the basic seat and none of the add on's your ok, but its hard for families as if they want guaranteed seats together they have to pay the extra Its not like it used to be believe me!! It's not so much budget airlines in general, but the fact the price increased without adding anything optional-just the basic costs. BMIbaby are good, but they don't do Budapest. Ziggy
That's just ridiculous isn't it... extra for a seat!!!! Maybe you don't have to have a seat if you want to tango up and down the central aisle for the duration of the flight... madness... Whatever next? Pay extra if you want the aircraft to come with wings and a pilot??
chocchick
http://s121.photobucket.com/albums/o224/chocchick_album/jet2com/ I took some screen shots. The two flights are at £49.99, then change to £75.99 and £87.99 with no explanation (tax?) It then adds on fuel, seat and baggage charges before we have even agreed to any extras. This adds nearly £90 to the price it says. The £5.99 per person each way is for having more than hand luggage. There is something on the site about a £25 reservation charge that does not seem to be included as well. Not sure if you have to pay that or not. OH phoned up jet2.com and they said all seats had at least a £3 extra charge (each way). So it's not just that the cheapest seats had been taken already. I suppose you're looking at £6 extra each way on the price you pay compared with the price they say. £90 if you include tax(?), fuel, seats and a suitcase. chelsea
you do have to be careful when booking online also as a lot of the airlines have the baggage/seats etc set at a default so they have already added in the baggage and you have to remove it if you dont want it (which I think is very cheeky) as a lot of people miss this and end up buying seats/baggage/travel insurance without realising
AMO
One of my friends booked seats to Dublin last week - the price started at £30 return and by the time she booked a seat, added a bag etc the cost more than doubled!!
Shirl
Yes Ryan Air are doing some 1p seats at the moment which includes taxes. With an infant you have to book in at the airport so get charged for that, then there's the credit card charge unless you have an Electron card (who has one of those?). Then there's the baggage. Oh ans an infant is £10 rather than the 1p. It all starts to add up.

I used to book quite a few flights for our lads at work, and hated doing it.
