Janty
Hubby and Kop Boy (son) have bought some exploding cucumber seeds from The Real Seed Company. Apparently, you can't use them until they have exploded and you have to approach them with caution and wearing goggles as they could explode at any time. Sounds mad to me but it's keeping them amused.

Ain't Nobody Here
So, let me get this straight . These are seeds that you plant to get cucumbers but you have to wait till they've exploded till you can actually plant them? That does sound pretty cool, actually . I hate handbags & makeup and don't wear pink so maybe that's why .
Janty
No. Sorry, probably explained it badly. The seeds get planted and the plant grows. Then the mini cucumbers develop on the plant. However, they have to explode before you can eat them. If you get too close to the plant when one of the cucumbers explodes you can damage your eyes hence the need for eye protaction. Then, once they seeds have exploded out of the cucumber, the rest of the cucumber can be enjoyed in salads, etc. i know it's weird but they love it. Apparently they taste like sweet pepper. Tara.F
I grew the 'fat baby' achocas last year. they grew like triffids, looked amazing and impressed the flat cap brigade at the allotments no end sadly though, they tasted awful
fluffymuppet
I've also grown achocha, which is closely related to the Exploding Cucumber. There's an article and photos on my website about it. I'm going to grow it again this year.
