chickencam
We are looking at sat nav devices for the car and I was wondering if there were any recommendations for ones to avoid of ones to go for. We are currently looking at the Tom Tom one v3 and the Garmian
gooner.girl
We have a tom tom - the most basic one - dunno what model it is off the top of my head. Go for it - they're great. *note to self must check mine to see if it will work in Ireland next week...
Cinnamon
I have Tom Tom & Hubby has the same in his van, & I must say that it is brilliant. Only yesterday his van broke down & I had to go to the back of beyond to pick him up, & it got me there with no problems. I would recommend Tom Tom to anyone. Get one with a night vision light,so its easier to see if you use it a night - essential!
LisaP
Tom Tom here too and if I can follow it, then anyone can Lisa
chickenlass
I'm interested in which one people think is best too ...A friend of mine said she has a Nav Man and seems pleased with it. How easy are they to use please?
Chuckov
I have a Tom Tom Go, it's OK but not as good as the one that I used to have built in to my Mini! It is quite user friendly though, although it has strange ideas about what actually constitutes a faster route (e.g. driving through a river ) but I think they can all be like that! Guest
I have a Navman and its brilliant. Bought another one for Mum and it went wrong - after we eventually got a refund (flipping Argos are USELESS). I bought a replacement in the Staples clearance for over £100 off. I have that one as it's more complex and Mum prefers simplicity.
Chuckov
Tom tom with John Cleese Oh yes, important selling point, the downloadable celebrity voices!! My BIL has John and he's brilliant
Treekeeper
Mine's built into the car Mazda 5 Sportnav But we got one for my old man who is 70 and a complete technofoible, a Tom Tom and he manged to get all through France and Spain and back home again so they must be some good
Sarah B
I have a Tom Tom 1 and OH has a Garmin 770. They both work brill but I prefer hubbys Garmin purely for the looks and the size - it's very slim!
Jules.
Hubby has a Garmin & the lead which you connect to the cigarette lighter is bust & we can't get a replacement anywhere i like the name "Tom Tom". If you got mad with the car 'cause it broke down would John Cleese come & batter it with a tree branch if you had tom tom?
Tiggy
TOMTOM here, I don't know how I ever managed without one
Mrs Frugal
We've got a Road Angel satnav and it's great. Hasn't let us down at all so far.
Olly
I've got a TomTom, but it's actually loaded on to my iPaq PDA (I am gadget girl!) as I already had that, and it was cheaper than buying a stand-alone sat-nav. It clips into a holder which I attach to the windscreen, and connects to the satellite receiver by Bluetooth. I love it, it has made driving so much easier and less stressful, I would not be without it. You do need to apply common-sense, and the maps on mine now need updating but I am too mean to buy them, but it's absolutely brilliant. Do beware though, DON'T leave it in the car, and in fact I regularly wipe off the 'sucker' mark on the windscreen where the holder has been, because that is something thieves look for apparently. I have also brought the maps for Italy and France for it Having said that I like the idea of John Cleese giving me directions

The Dogmother
I'd really like one too. I was very impressed with my friend Fiona's TomTom satnav. It's certainly put an end to me tutting at Phil because he's not paying attention to the map
Tessa the Duchess
I'd really like one too. I was very impressed with my friend Fiona's TomTom satnav. It's certainly put an end to me tutting at Phil because he's not paying attention to the map We are still stuck in the A-Z and maps age. I don't actually mind getting lost, it can be quite fun I once drove through Paris to get back to the cross channel ferry without a map (DH had thrown it out of the window in a temper) I just used a compass, keep going north, keep going north Tessa

We let my brother borrow it for a while and ended up having to go somewhere ourselves without it. hillfamily
Tom Tom here - it's brilliant When I decided to get a Sat Nav I asked on here and Tom Tom was the resounding answer Made trips much easier as I can't drive and read a map at the same time (even though I am a mother and multi tasking is built in )
crazygal
I have a book of maps Me too- and a Geography degree so I've really not got an excuse to get lost- but somehow it doesn't always help.... anyone familiar with the Winchester one way system??
