AJuff
Well done Koojie, you have done well this week. I think I need to get motivated more and do a workout. I just can't seem to fit it in and all the crafty things I like doing are unfortunately all sitting down!
Valkyrie
Yep - quilting is bad for you!

Valkyrie
I'd like that very much thank you Jlo.
Helly Welly
I did the Leicester Skyride yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at how easily i rode around with no joint problems or stamina issues. I guess that gym work is paying off. On a food note, i've gone on a Japanese phase lately so lunchtimes tend to be variations on a rice theme. Hopefully this will keep the weight down as i have leftovers for lunch far too often. Snacks are my downfall, finding healthy ones that i actaully want to eat is hard. Nuts are okay but i have to be careful they don't set off my IBS. I don't really like yoghurts apart from Muller fruit corners. I'm not much of a fruit lover, although i've been having a bit of tinned fruit lately. he trouble is, if DD and OH have cake or ice cream, i feel miffed if i don't have it too. Has anyone discovered the wonder snack that tastes as good as chocolate/ice cream/cake without the guilt???
Ain't Nobody Here
Has anyone discovered the wonder snack that tastes as good as chocolate/ice cream/cake without the guilt??? No such thing . I make up batches of sugar-free jelly in little glasses with lids. It's surprising how enjoyable they are if you're just wanting something sweet! For my alternative to crisps, I spread a little sugar free peanut butter onto thick cucumber slices (not easy as it just slides off ). I'm getting close to getting below another stone in weight . Watch this space .
Valkyrie
When my cousin came over from Canada a couple of years ago, we went out B&B'ing for a couple of days. The first night we were there, we didn't get a chance to eat an evening meal, so she produced this chocolate diet bar. We shared it between us and it was extremely filling - considering it was only half a bar, I wouldn't have been able to finish the whole thing. I have never been able to find the equivalent over here.
earthmother
Lovely low-cal snack - needs a bit of forthought though. Mullerlight blackcurrant yoghurt frozen. It takes 2-3 hours to freeze, and you need to take it out of the freezer and shake it up every 45 minuted or so, to stop ice crystals forming, but it's worth the effort. It takes just like a blackcurrant sorbet - nearly as good as ice cream.
Sheilaz
Hi, I'd really like to revive this topic and keep the healthy tips going and also find out how everyone's doing. May I join in? I know that I will feel better if I lose one and a half stone, and I will do this gradually, but I really needs some support! I am two and a half stone more than I used to be but think I need a bit extra, so 2 stone would be ideal, but I'll be happy & healthy taking off one and a half; if it comes off in the right places, which are the usually culprits, anywhere below ribcage would be good! My starting point is to practise what I preach; 3 light healthy meals & 3 very light snacks, starting with early breakfast & finishing not too late in evening. Although I start the day well, its often downhill after that! Worst habits are getting too late with lunch & then snacking on anything to hand when preparing dinner. So, today I'm having a fresh start. How's everyone else doing, including early posters on this topic, and who else is joining me?
Valkyrie
Good luck Sheila. I gained 2lb, but I got a bit niggled the other day and had a comfort eating session. The doc said that I was doing the right thing by just reducing portions gradually - too fast too soon isn't good, and it would feel like you are on a diet, hence more likely to give up. I'm afraid I am prone to comfort eating though - wish I was more like mum - she won't eat when she's upset. That way you can still feel normal and not miss out on anything. I'm back on track, but Tom is around so bloating a bit.
Ain't Nobody Here
Good luck from me too, Sheila . I've lost almost 1 1/2 stone and feel so much better having done so . I have a whole new wardrobe too . I try to snack on a handful of nuts & seeds or have celery/apple/cucumber with sugar free peanut butter. I've stalled a bit recently but I think the nightly puddings might just have something to do with that . The South Beach diet worked for me but I'm not really following it now, more just keeping some of the ideas going.
Jules.
Hope all goes well, Sheila I've gone off the rails a bit, put 3lb on from my cruise, & not really exercised But I still have lost 20lb since May, still feel loads better, & still fit in all my new size 8/10 clothes. I've just got to get motivated again, but my excuse for not doing so is that life is very stressful at the mo. Hubby is quite poorly, and life in general is currently squashing me so much. Methinks that recommencing exercise will be good for a stress buster for me
Sheilaz
You've done incredibly well Jules, I followed your progress on this topic and you look fab in the cruise pic I saw. Sorry to hear about OH & also the extra pressures you have. I suppose it actually makes it more important to be looking after yourself. So, although you'll be short of time, just keeping focussed on the healthy eating & exercise however you can, is essential. I know I'm stating the obvious, but I found your efforts so encouraging that it's inspired me too. I never was a size 8, and because I'm tall a 10 is a bit skinny for me. I'm an exact 12 on the shoulders, and still wear a size 12 (or 14 trousers) but only with cheats such as forgiving elastic. I'm therefore aiming to be an honest size 12 with buttons and fitted styles!
AJuff
I'm glad someone is reviving this topic as I've gone off the rails. I'm sat eating fruitella sweets and have had a bacon and egg roll for lunch and a piece of cheesecake. not the best day! I'll go and do some excercise this afternoon as You are all making me feel very guilty.
Jules.
I'm going to a swiming party with my son this afternoon, as he has to be accompanied by an adult. Does splashing about with a bunch of 5/6 year olds count as exercise my for today Sheila, thank you for your kind comments
Sheilaz
... Does splashing about with a bunch of 5/6 year olds count as exercise my for today Definitely, for the whole w/e I should think! AJuff, there's always tomorrow! I'm going to enjoy all foods, it's just that I'll try and plan a sensible balance and amount each day. If one day goes wrong, I'll start again the next day, that's why we have nighttime! Aw, I'm glad we're in this together.
Lesley
I've put on half a stone over the summer - working hard on the 'garden' but producing wonderful stuff to eat.....including 6 different varieties of potato to test, plums to make into crumble etc. I'm still going to Aquafat on Mondays and I went back to the gym on Thursday - I haven't been since we started lambing in April I'm easing myself back into it......... Sheilaz
Its obviously all muscle Lesley. Be great if you join in here again, I shall be needing plenty of support. I've just worked out that the last time I went back to my target was as a fundraising incentive 19 years ago, and I was only 1 stone over to start then. So, 19 years & 4th child later, it's definitely time to try again. Last time, I used a Mr.Motivator video Might just walk a lot this time. Ready if you are then Lesley! I'll be checking that you have breakfast.
Lesley
It will be Plum Crumble Sheila!
Valkyrie
I have a Mr Motivator video too - I like his jolly methods - but our video is up the swanee (well that's my excuse ).
chickencam
The only way that Mr Motivator would make me exercise is by running away from the TV as fast as I could I like the idea of being an honest size 12, that is how I feel too. I am a size 12 at the top but a 12-14 lower down and only a 12 if the clothes are forgiving. I have a spare tyre at the moment and they say that is one of the worsdt places to carry your weight so I think excercise is the key for me. I walk so much less now that YD walks to and from School on her own that is about a mile a day that I have lost.
craftyhunnypie
Another 1lb off this week. That's 1 stone 4 and a half in 10 weeks. Emma.x
Sheilaz
Fab Em! Great to hear good news from those progressing, and also find others who are feeling same as me. Koojie, I'm the same about comfort food, but OK if I don't start, so I'm determined to divert my attention, will you join in? I'm aiming for improvement, not saintliness, just as well as DD1 "needed" choc tonight and didn't divert my attention on that one! Promise to try harder tomorrow! Liz, I found the same when DD2 moved schools, but I do fast walk to work & town instead now. Sorry I missed a few posts earlier, you've done well too ANH, I'm determined again! Valkyrie
Chatting to Jlo yesterday, I admitted that if my mind is taken off food - where I get so engrossed in something, I don't realise the time and find that I have forgotten to eat lunch - usually by 3.30 or 4 my tummy says "oi, remember me?". By that time it's not far off tea/dinner time so I don't usually bother. Cleaning out the cupboard I found a sneakily placed choccy bar - goodness knows how long it had been there (it's a cupboard with tins and bottles). Thinking I'd hit the jackpot I opened it only to find wildlife inside happily munching. Needless to say I didn't eat it - and how the heck did they get there when they are not choccy munching things (usually find the odd woolly bear dotted around but quickly get hoovered up). Now I have an issue with the spiders and have told them they have to do their job much better in future. I have never had that in any other cupboard. Now that certainly helped me not eat!!!! Well done Em. And I don't have any aches after yesterday either (was horrendously tired late afternoon but fine today).
