Chicken on a mission
Last night Mr CoaM looked at me like I was barking as I calmly put my trainers in the freezer. I gently explained to him that this kills off the bacteria that causes them to smell. Does anyone else have any top tips ( the weirder the better) that they want to share because I hate housework and anything that makes my life easier has got to be a good thing
The Managing Director
Well you could invite my mum to stay She was here for a week and my house stayed sooo tidy it was heaven , I went to work and when I got home she had done all the ironing (including 42 shirts of Murdos ) He always says he'll iron his own shirts, so I let him failing that banish all children and pets form the house, it stays much tidier if a little quiet If I come up with anything more useful I'll let you know
Guest
We put BooBoo bear and bedtime baby in the freezer because it helps get rid of mingy wee dustmites.
The Dogmother
There's no room in my freezer for the food let alone BooBoo bear
Trish
Microwave your damp dishcloth for 30 seconds on high, it kills the bacteria in it.
chocchick
I think putting a new packet of tights in the freezer (freezer again ) helps stop ladders. Also peanut butter I'm sure is a way of getting chewing-gum out of hair. Never tried either though
Chicken on a mission
I don't use furniture polish now in favour of a damp cloth. I have found that it doesn't get dusty again so quicky because there is no residue for the dust to be attracted to Also, I have found that trying to get friends to invite my 3 year old and I out for lunch saves me so much time. No prep, or clearing up time required. Must save me 2 1/2 hours
Lesley-Jean
Replace old carpet with solid floors instead of new carpets. This cuts down on dusting hugely And gives less places for dust mites to breed
ali-s
I put my dishcloth and scouring sponge in the dishwasher for a wash along with the crockery and cutlery. Keeps them nice and clean as they are not hanging about on the draining board breeding bacteria
Linda
Tamsin, you're only young though, aren't you. Maybe you're not ready to be a domestic goddess just yet!

The Managing Director
There was no need to do any housework at all. After the first four years the dirt doesn't get any worse. --Quentin Crisp I think this is an excellent motto quite like these two as well 'My idea of housework is to sweep the room with a glance.' and 'Show me a house that's excruciatingly clean, and I'll show you an older, female relative about to visit it. ' Ohh so true, the worst bit is when the place is absolutely spotless and your mother still finds the one thing you haven't done, something really vital like stacking all the towels neatly (think she must be a secret Anthea Turner fan) there is a link here to many more like minded quotes http://members.aol.com/BuildaButton/housework.htm

The Managing Director
I hoovered this morning and Caity asked if her nana (my mil) was coming! My best friend came round whilst my mum was here and first thing she said was 'what's happened , it's so tidy . In front of my mum I could have strangled her (friend not mum )
The Managing Director
Have you been speaking to Mel MD? Is she of like mind she has kids and dogs doesn't she so she's bound to be, soon as you have a dog all hope of a tidy house goes out of the window, Flints contribution to the tidiness of the house is to redistribute all the kids toys as soon as my back is turned, that and carefully shred each and every bed we have bought him , the last one lasted 1 day
Chicken on a mission
I don't enjoy housework and am not one of those that hover every day. I remember saying to my nan that I do w=enought= to make sure we don't live in a pigsty and no more. This way I can spend time with my little girl. I'll never foget her face when she said she wished she had done that
The Dogmother
She doesn't have children, but they have two dogs, and alien that thinks it's a dog and loads of chickens. She's always professing not to do any housework, but when i went to see them, she'd done the MIL trick. I reckon that she's a closet Anthea Turner

Richard and Jo
My wife has this poem pinned on the kitchen wall You may not find things all in place, friend, when you enter here, We are a home where chilodren live and we hold them very dear. You may find some fingermarks and some smudges on the wall When they're gone we'll clear them up right now we're playing ball. For there's one thing of which we are sure. These children are on loan, one day always underfoot the next you know they're gone. That's when we'll have a well kept house, when they have gone to roam. Right now it's where children live- a loved and lived in home. Jo just told me she got this form the forum but nuts - i have typed it so i will post it Its rubbish anyway because she then spent all day clearing up on Saturday for her mum who was coming over to babysit

I'll never foget her face when she said she wished she had done that now you see my mum would never say that She's more a why is there dirty rubbish in the bin, kind of person every time I open a draw at the moment I discover everything neatly tidied, I used to take it as a silent rebuke but now I'm just grateful for any help I can get
Hellcat
'I hope that my child, looking back on today Remembers a mother who had time to play. Children grow up while we're not looking, There'll be plenty of time for cleaning and cooking. So quiet now cobwebs, dust go to sleep, I'm rocking my baby, and babies don't keep.' Thats why I dont do masses of housework. I have 3 children and two dogs and 5 chickens. I would rather spend the little bit of time I do have with them than worrying about sticky fingerprints on the windows.
Chicken on a mission
Great sentiments everyone. I was getting a bit worried about going to the get together having read the grumpy thread because I was quite sure that either hubby, Esme or I would find a way of annoying each and every one of you I am really looking forward to meeting everyone.
