How are your spuds doing?

Recommended Posts

 I've lost Freddie! Has anyone seen him?

Perhaps he's gone to find Paola :?

He did find Paola, then he popped over to Annies Place & im expecting him at mine some point this afternoon. Do you want me to send him back then Clare?:lol::lol::lol:

Not if he's all floppy and worn out Emma.

Perhaps Annie would permit him a bit of R&R before sending him back (recharged) to me

We dug all our accent first earlies up last weekend and have a chicken feed sack full! They're smashing!! We've still got a couple of rows of our second earlies, Saxon, left and the majority of the main crops which are Desiree which I always grow :lol: !! I'm really pleased with the crops so far. The potatoes are all a good size - plenty of bakers and hopefully they'll last us well into winter, if not spring with a bit of luck!

we were considering half dis-assembling the compost bin this weekend to get some of the spuds that have grown in there (told joey to cut the spuds up to stop 'em growing before he chucks the one's that are past their best) but hopefully we'll have a great crop of those

Problem is I don't know WHAT spuds we have grown!!!

Mi y desiree are still lanky and one has a sort of tomato type fruit groing on it :? having been impatient and dug up one of the sacks to find a handful of tiny spuds, I am leaving these untilt he plants die down. Next year I will get my act together and plant earlies etc so that I have crops coming through regularly. I might have to check back with you which ones to buy though.

Has anyone else heard that Ryton organics is having a harvesting open day on Saturday 9th September? We'll probably go along.

The international kidneys are coming up now and we have LOADS and LOADS - nut they are the size of normal spuds, not Jersey Royals (which is what that brand is).

Note to self - get 'em out earlier next year! Mind you, they taste great!

And we had some Pink Fir Apple spuds come up as well, self seeded from last year. Free spuds - great!

Also, I have Tigerella toms the size of grapefruits, masses of outdoor cucumbers and a couple of promising pumpkins coming on. Could be a 'naughty' basket of goodies...

Oh, and the cobnut tree my mum grew from a nut has fruited this year for the first time! Only 7, but they look great.
