Luck and tips needed for my Head Girl interview for Thursday

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Well I wrote my letter of application to become Head Girl last week, handed it in last Thursday and today I found out that out of 25 students I am one of the 12 people who have been picked for the Headship interviews! I have to talk to student voice and answer the questions that they give me, then I have a formal interview with my Head of Year and Head of Upper School and I also have to give a spoken presentation of roughly four minutes about what makes my school so special...I already have a few ideas for this!

Anyway, I'd just like to know if you have any tips and to have your support behind me!

Ooooh, Liz, good luck with that :P

If you are just yourself, & come over as confident, smart, happy, sensible & pleasant, then I am sure the role will be yours.

How lovely that you want to do this.Devon would NOT be talked into trying for it,nor even a prefects role

Well I'm already a Prefect and now I've got this far I'm at least a Senior Prefect, so it's just the Headship now that I'd like! I'm not too bad with nerves as I've had to do a lot of things in front of people, but I'll take your advice on rescue remedy!

Tip - wear proper shoes

(Not sure what else to advise. I was never a candidate for Head Girl. Good luck! )

Funny that Richard!

:roll::roll: .....but do make sure they are nice & shiney 8)

Well I have to wear my school shoes at school strangely enough, will definitely make an effort to polish them!

Well done and good luck!

We had to apply to be head girl etc at our school but basically the person they picked was the person who was most popular, it didn;t matter that she generally didn't even come to school/ work hard/ really do any of the stuff that the head gril shgould do as she just left it all to the committee!!

Then again my school were never any good at anything like that lol

I don't have any specific advice as my school didn't have anything like a head girl, but I would say good preparation will really help.

Have a think about the sort of questions the student voice and the head of school may ask you and have a few ideas prepared. There is nothing worse than being asked a question and not having anything to say.

By the sounds of things you are really ready to face everyone so good luck!

Good luck Liz - no tips here having never really been head girl or prefect material! :D

At the new school i am working at, we have just had elections for head girl and head boy - kids leave school in year 8 so my year 7 form have just found out their positions. They present a poster which is displayed saying why you should vote for them, then all the teachers and kids (as young as year 2) vote. There will only be 2 girls and 3 boys in year 8 next year (small school) Both the girls are nice but the really lovely one didn't get it cos the other one has a little brother in year 4 and all his friends i suspec,t voted for his sister just cos she was his sister! so the system is not totally fool proof though apparantly they have never had anyone really inappropriate! Is better then my last school where the headmaster decided based on which parents would moan the most if it wasn't their little darling..... Private schools eh?!

Smile, shake hands at the beginning and end of the interview, maintain eye contact (without actually staring!) and enjoy the experience. :)

The shiny shoes tip is good, too: I read somewhere that the owner of Claridges always checks whether or not the shoes of the person he is talking to are shiny.

Edited: to correct typo

Good luck Liz!

I think there are some good tips here: (and I'm just reiterating them!)

Look clean, smart and tidy

Smile

Shake hands and thank them for their time

Speak slowly, confidently and clearly

Be yourself and don't be afraid to admit to weaknesses as well as strengths.

Be passionate about the role and how you would fulfil it.

I'm sure you'll do really well in the interview and hope that you get the job!

xx

When they ask you to tell them a bit about yourself......mention the chickens! :D

That's a good tip,Egluntine, they are always such a great talking point and people always really love hearing about them. It's something that will make Liz stand out for sure.
