Cate in NZ
Please forgive me this little bit of self indulgence, but I've just had the most fabulous bit of news and I have to share it with my friends . I went for an interview last week for a brilliant job, it really sounds like my dream job, challenging, but interesting, utilises skills I've already got but will stretch me professionally as well. The hours are great, 9-3, probably 4 days a week occasionally extra hours to cover staff leave etc, but never likely to be outside 9-3 hours, so fit in brilliantly with schools and leaves my evenings free for family time. The pay is extremely competitive.......this is the kind of job that I'd create if I could dream up everything I want in a job....and I've got it It's 45kms from home, straight through a forest, mountain range, geothermal area and past a stunning lake, the scenery is unbelievable , to a pretty isolated part of the country. Very rural, fairly deprived, high Maori population, big farming community area too. 6 schools (1 secondary, the rest small primary's), 1 sawmill and a Maori village. We deliver healthcare in all it's different guises to these communities, so I will be school nurse, occupational health nurse, district nurse and practice nurse.....and anything else they want me to be. No doctors visit that far out into the middle of nowhere, so it is our job to persuade the seriously sick into one of the towns....otherwise it's all down to us. They'll pay my travel expenses, support me with training (I might even finally get to complete the MSC ), and they just all seem so friendly and dynamic and interesting, and, well, errrm, fabulous Sorry to inflict my enthusiasm on you, but I'm just so excited, I cant believe my luck, and I had to share it with someone. I'll go and sit on my hands now until it's a reasonable time to ring my Mum in the UK and share the news with her, but she's not exactly into early mornings since she retired....I daren't ring her before 9am

Cate in NZ
Thanks for all the good wishes everyone When do you start? I'm not sure yet. The overall boss lady rang me this evening to give me the good news, but I need to ring the team tomorrow to firm up the details, arrange to collect my uniform and cell phone etc . I know that the nurse who I'll be replacing has already left, strangely she was also from the UK and after 7 years out here her husband decided that he wanted to return to the UK, so they flew out yesterday....she's probably still airborne. So with any luck they'll want me soon . I'm ready to start work now, enjoyed my prolonged "holiday" but there's only so much housework I can do and I'm actually getting a bit bored at home now

lizinsa
CONGRATULATIONS that's fantastic I've been following your emigration on the forum (but not in a stalkerish way!) and it's made me very jealous and I'm absoutely thrilled that after the difficult decision and long separation the move seems to have really paid off! I once watched a documentary series years and years ago (sorry can't remember its name) and the lady in that emigrated and took on a similar role - she absolutely loved her job (unlike when she was in the UK) and her enthusiasm for the role was fantastic, it seemed a really interesting and varied and had less paperwork!
