redfrock
I went into a card shop yesterday to buy hubby a wedding anniversary card and a large part of the shop had been given over to Christmas cards . Now I know that finances mean many of us have to plan ahead but it is still only August

Scramble
I was in a Garden Centre in the Lakes on Holiaday and they had Christmas tree's and cards and crackers as well as a giant toy santa holding a sign saying the Christmas department would be opening on August 25th! I haven't bought a pudding yet...well, unless you count the one in the cupboard from last year when we accidently bought two...
Ain't Nobody Here
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo That's a pet hate of mine, seeing Christmas stuff in the shops months too early . I love Christmas, but AT CHRISTMAS TIME .
Scramble
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo That's a pet hate of mine, seeing Christmas stuff in the shops months too early . I love Christmas, but AT CHRISTMAS TIME . I feel exactly the same... Christmas? With the sun shining? For some reason I like Christmas when it is rainy/cloudy/cold/snowy then I can bring out all my fluffy jumpers!
Egluntyne
I spotted sprouts in Waitrose on Friday. Does that count as a harbinger of Christmas?
Ana's flock
I know we're not exactly having summery weather this year but... Perhaps shops are preparing for the consequences of the credit crunch and start 'encouraging' shoppers early...
susanbb
Blimey. They start sooner every year.
ali-s
Matalan had Christmas decorations, cards and paper for sale last week. I am starting my homemade Christmas cards this week. I bought half price kits in the January sales. Just need to remember which box they are in and whereabouts in the loft the box was put. Cate in NZ
I'm the same, I really dislike the whole commercial, let's see how much cash we can persuade the shoppers to spend on Christmas by starting the whole shopping experience off early thing that the stores all seem to do . They're not trying to get you to spread the cost...they're actually trying to make you spend more . I've no problems with individuals making their own quite preparations early, cooking and card making and shopping, it makes sense to spread the load and start early...but the shops doing it...shrieks of rampant commercialism and money making to me and I hate it. I also think it winds up the children too much too...they start seeing the ads on TV and gifts in the shops and think it's nearly here. But apparently Christmas will be very different over here, next to no commercialism, limited card exchanging, shops not really buying into the whole thing and few people even bother to decorate their homes. Daylight until 9pm, and it'll be mid summer and warm (I hope ). It'll be very different, apparently it's when most British ex pats get most homesick...I hope it doesn't affect me like that. Guest
We are away this Christmas so hoping to keep it low key here. Have very few presents to buy, will put the tree up and send some cards. WON'T tell the family we are going away for Christmas, wonder if they will ask what we are doing - or phone Christmas Day and wonder where we are??? I wonder if Mickey Mouse will be cooking our Christmas dinner?
redfrock
5 Puddings so far and some mincemeat. Cake is next month ah yes but that is different - these things need a certain amount of time to steep (is that the right term?) - Christmas cards in the shops in August is just wrong! I bought some too and squirrelled them away somewhere........remembering where they are is going to be a challenge!
Jules.
I spotted an Advent calendar in the window of a stationer's shop last week in Keswick- I went "NOOOO"!
helenc
I had my Christmas stock delivered at the beginning of August and got it all on the website last week, I'm not advertising it (but you can find it fairly easily) as I think its too early for that, having said that I sold some tree decorations last Thursday and some more yesterday! Angels4
Although I haven't seen any Christmas decorations or adverts. I was caught the other day humming Christmas Caroles and asked to stop my my co-worker. She's a bit of a Scrooge anyway.
Mrs Webmuppet
I have started on Christmas presents, but that's 'cause I knit most of them and I average a month per item (cardi's, jumpers etc). I hate the shops giving Chrsitmas the hard sell before the middle of November. By the time I get to Christmas I have had enough of the whole thing! There's a big difference between quietly getting on with making the cake, making hand made pressies and the shops giving it the hard sell. It just makes me more determined not to spend my hard earned cash in those shops.
