Ain't Nobody Here
I've been bothered with intermittent, low level pain in my left sinus since early July . It's not so bad that I feel I need to take anything for it. I did once have sinusitis years ago and it was the most painful thing I've ever had . This is nowhere near that painful but it's been going on for months and I'm getting a bit fed up with it. Anyone have any experience/knowledge/advice they can give me? I don't really want to bother a doctor as it's not debilitating, just a bit annoying when it niggles.
bellekatz
You could try steam inhalation with menthol crystals in. I have suffered sinisitus pain for 1bout 30 years - these days I use otrovine sinus spray ( it has a longer spout so it goes higher up into your sinuses) and some paracetamol. You can only use the spray for a few days though ( I think it may be a week - any longer and it can damage the lining of your nose) and usually the day after I stop using it I feel all stuffy, but then it clears and I am ok for a while until the next lot of damp weather. I used to go to the dosctors and get anti biotics years ago but they threatened me with a sinus wash out ( ) so I just treat myself now
abwsco
Reflexology is brilliant for sinus problems or an aromatheraphy facial
Sheilaz
It's def. worth doing the "towel covered head over bowl of steam" 3 times a day for a week before giving up on a cure. Some people say "but I've tried the steam, it doesn't help" but the trick is to do it rigorously as above without giving up. It won't always be the answer to everything, but a niggle might well be helped. Certainly works here for daughters when they have postviral stuffed heads, and it can feel quite soothing. Finding tim is a bother, but it won't do any harm, so worth trying the routine. Adding menthol as last post, or eucalyptus, is good too, but sometimes I just do steam & find it brings relief. All the best
clootie
Can't offer any advice ANH but just wanted to say sorry you're feeling rotten. Hope it eases soon.
Ain't Nobody Here
Thanks for the advice guys! Clootie, I'm feeling fine (but thank you ). I just kind of notice a niggling in my sinus every few days. It's not painful, more very slightly uncomfortable which is why I've not really done anything about it. Cinnamon
Oh, I really, truly sympathise with you. I suffer from bad sinus pain & get a major attack about once every 18 months or so. It is totally hellish People are right to say that steam is the answer, but I have always found the old head over the sink with a towel method a bit hit & miss myself. Plus you get really, really hot Invest a small amount in a hand held stem inhaler, from Boots They are no more than £8 or so, & you fill it with hot water. It has a special piece that goes over the nose & mought, getting the steam where its really needed. I can guarantee that it works a treat. It gets the staem where you need it,is easy to hold & you don't have to have a sopping steamy towel over you head either I swear by mine & use it at the first sign of any sinus problems, & I am sure it has helped stop a major sinus event before now. Angels4
I use a neti pot and haven't been bothered with sinus issues in quite some time. This might work for you.
Egluntyne
Try one of **these**, similar to Angels4's suggestion. Does the trick for me.
rachel19
Eat strong raw onion - you smell awful but it does seem to work for that kind of thing, def clears the sinuses!
Christian
I suffer from this every now and then ANH and it is awful! My Doctor recommends steaming every day (morning and evening. I find menthol crystals too strong, so use eucalyptus oil. My job doesn't help or my family history (Dad has had 2 sinus 's"Ooops, word censored!"es' ). Invest a small amount in a hand held stem inhaler, from Boots They are no more than £8 or so, & you fill it with hot water. It has a special piece that goes over the nose & mought, getting the steam where its really needed. . Just what I was going to suggest It is called the 'Breatheasy Steam inhaler'. I have 2, one for home and one for my crew bag. Much easier than a bowel of water and a towel. Hope you get it sorted soon. C x
Valkyrie
Poor ANH Hugs being sent. Luckily I only suffer when I have a cold, really bad you have had it so long. Lots of warm baths to inhale the steam. Tried Vicks - yerk! Nearly lost all my breath in one sniff - I think the solution was too strong, so put up with it ever since then! Tiggy
try the nasal sprays used for hayfever, I know it sounds wierd but thats what the ENT consultants prescribe
Seagazer
Sinus pain is horrible, I use the steam bath approach but I think I might treat myself to one of the hand held devices as it feels very claustrophobic with a towel over my head. Hope it gets better soon.
