Someone asked in the shop (Oxfam) if we had a sewing machine for sale. She needed it quickly as she'd promised to make some school costumes & then realised her machine was still in NZ as they were just repatriating. Well, we didn't have one, but I found myself lending her mine. So, I've handed it to a complete stranger. Hope she returns it! ....now for the good news, Today she returned it, 1st leaving a bunch of roses & a thank you card when I was out, then giving me my machine & a £10 donation for Oxfam. I remember my dad telling me about when he was at the Isle of Wight Festival in 69/70 and his binoculars were passed down the line of complete strangers to use - and then they came back! Then Thursday and Friday with Saturday off. 4 day week, but the shifts are very long. His girlfriend lives close to his job and sometimes he stays there too - oh joy, oh bliss! Selfish mother! little chickadee Posted December 4, 2008 Share Posted December 4, 2008 Grandad is doing well (we went to visit him last night) He's such a bad patient that they've had to put him in a special bed to stop him getting out. He's 99 and managed to get out of bed to sit in his next door neighbour's chair the day after a hip operation He was well chuffed with the Victoria sponge I took with me (even though he forgets a fair bit, he always remembers I've won prizes for my Victoria Sponges!)
