Digital television.....is your reception good????

Recommended Posts

We have digital television...in fact we have 4 digi boxes....around the house...

Our house is 2 years old, so the aerial is new, and installed professionally and outside...

We had to have a booster (from the installer, shop purchased ones didnt work) to get any signal for ordinary television or digital

However I have to say, the digital signal is poor...

If there is fog it goes, and today it must be foggy....as its gone again....bad weather of any type affects it.

(its not the box, although that can crash too....(we have a version with a hard drive to record..and its easy to re-boot...(switch off and on) ...plus we've had two different machines in the sitting room, so we know its not restricted to the box we are using.

When the digital box cant get reception, sometimes we can get a reasionable analgoue signal..but only for 5 channels obviously..

But what will happen when analogue is tured off.......

We wont have television....particularly in the winter months, during spells of bad weather....how convenient...

Do others have this problem too ?????

Mine seems to have good days and bad days. Since the weather isn't great at the moment we're having more bad days when it can't even pick up a signal. I can't see anything improving before we switch to digital. I do sometimes wonder why we bother to pay the bills as the service is so intermittent!

We can only get digital on uhf channel 40, that means we are restricted to dave, e4+1, sky news and a few radio stations. we've tried various boosters but none of them make a difference. We are renting the house so can't afford to get someone in to look over the aerial etc to see if they can figure out the problem.

Fred and omletina..I hope you are right...

:-D

Milli.....try somewhere like Maplin electronics...I intend to look there for a new booster when ours breaks.... I'm sure they ahve much better products than the likes of argos we tried for our first booster which wasnt strong..before we got the one from the aerial installers...check with them, I'm sure you can return if it doesnt workk too...

Our reception is fine - but we are in line of sight of the transmitter which probably helps.

Our radio reception isn't so good - every so often it loses the signal and we have to turn it off and on again. Luckily only one of our radios is digital.

When the analouge is turned off, the digital signal is boosted. So you will be fine.

Not necessarily.....we went 'live' the other day, but sadly the signal isn't boosted enough to receive more than a patchy service.

They haven't finished yet... Relays need upgrading etc etc

I wondered how you and Louise were getting on in the Borders Shona - they were saying for ages that it would be OK when they switched over :(

It's not good enough for them to say that there is still upgrading work to do Fred - they have had plenty of time to get it right and they are using a small area as guinea-pigs

We don't get good reception. We can't get analogue 5 and through digital 5 is almost impossible to watch as it breaks up and freezes all the time. Any drop of rain will cause a loss of signal completely.

Add to that an ancient Sky+ box.............

Gosh, I really had high hopes for digital TV. Although we can see our transmitter across the valley, we have very vaiable reception. Any weather can effect it, some nights its impossible to watch. No cable services here, we are thinking about Freesat, as we dont want to be paying any subscription. Its a good there is so little on TV we like to watch. MiL is waiting for our digital signal to go live to see if that improves the situation. Having read this thread I dont hold out much hope :(

Our digital radio is ok, but some times just disappears for a couple of minutes.

Recent reports, on the lead up to the switchover on Nov 6th, said that the Scottish Borders, despite being the first large-scale switch, would have the lowest %age of houses able to pick up an acceptable digital signal. There are no cable providers in the region at all, so you are left at the mercy of the evil Sky, with whom we had a massive fall-out a few weeks ago, after they accused us of lying, when we said we had a letterbox, of all things!!!! Long story, but we lost our picture, the engineer was called, and he went to the wrong place, but said he had come to our house, and could prove it because we had a house with no doorbell or letterbox.....

So, we'll stick with our, at best, patchy service from the all-singing, all-dancing (NOT!!) digital signal just now, and spend more time walking the dog. So far, *touches wood* not even the boys have moaned about the loss of the tv.
