Tiggy Posted November 21, 2008 Share Posted November 21, 2008 we have been almost burried by the amount of little ones who have caught this horrible bug, some adults too, dont be too suprised if your GP surgery is struggling to see you in the next week or so. it is very scary because some of the symptoms can be the same as menigitis, so we are all doing out best to see all the little ones we can. symptoms:- high temp 38C+ sore throat ear pain cough +++++ vomiting diarrhoea crampy abdo pain viral rash misearable & generally unwell bright green"snot' some of the older kids have tonsilitis which needs penicillin but most of the little ones need paracetamol with ibuprofen in between - provided the chest is clear & they are not allergic to brufen PS the cough goes on forever even after the child is better, some have even needed inhaler and steroids they are so wheezy. It's been 3 week for me, YS is starting second week. he also had some peculiar spots appear but not a rash. Dr has diagnosed 'The Lurgy.' Didn't expect anything else but had him checked as he also complained of pains in his left leg and also lower back. My sympathies to anyone else with this or with little ones who have it. I must admit I don't hear about these going around as much as I only see a couple of other mums from school as 'we're not allowed' to stand anywhere near the gates! Year 6's eh - think they're teenagers already I don't have anything like as many of those symptoms thank goodness, just headache, chesty feeling, sore throat and ears. We don't even have any children but we are blaming all our friends for bringing their "carrier monkeys" with them when they come to visit. As I haven't even properly got over my glandular fever yet I've managed to get tonsillitis as well . The worst bit is that you can't keep away from people with it in a stuffy classroom. I'm making the kids open all the windows where possible. His eyes are glassy looking and red, he has a rash and a headache. I was hoping as he had eaten yesterday that things were on the up but he was sick last night He's currently in bed. I have felt a bit under the weather too. I was in school helping yesterday, it's hard to go for a morning not breathing and I washed my hands very well when I got home. I have had the week so far off work - unheard of and made it to the docs yesterday for a course of antibiotics for all the gunk on my chest. I have aircon in my classroom so if it comes in it gets thrown at me ALL DAY! I'm feeling rough right now and hope it isn't this. DH i9s having problems with his voice which keeps coming and going, has the sneezes and a temp. DS has been getting headaches and has had varying degrees of a sore throat and was also sick last Friday. I've got a sore throat and a slight cough but am trying to ignore both!! Also had a letter from school at beginning of the week to say that 27 cases of measles have been reported in South Warwickshire which is much higher than usual and is nearly reaching epidemic levels. Tiggy Posted November 28, 2008 Author Share Posted November 28, 2008 I spotted a child with measles sitting in the middle of my waiting room a few weeks ago, really scary she was one of the first cases in Warwickshire, came up from London to escape the outbreak there.
