Goodness, how we've grown (new pics of us)

Recommended Posts

It's a few weeks since I took some photos of the girlies but I braved the wind this morning to take some shots and am amazed how much they have changed.

There are loads more pictures here in my gallery album with some good close-ups of heads, plumage and my other 3 slightly older girls taken also today :D .

The 4 younger girls are now about 26 weeks, only one has started to lay and it is Marigold (the smallest of ALL the girls) who is a Buff Mottled Leghorn so she layed a lovely white egg to boot (see my current avatar) :D .

Here are the before and after shots:-

Marigold - Buff Mottled Leghorn

Evadne - Cream Legbar (the slowest to mature I think)

After

Hopefully we will get some eggs from them soon now that Marigold has shown them the way.

What do you think?

How beautiful are those girls, Marigold is my favourite, I love her colourful plumage and floppy comb, she is so cute. :D

She is becoming quite a character, I must admit I have a very soft spot for her too. She is also getting much tamer which I'm glad about as she can fly so well, could easily could clear 6ft! I think the egg laying has calmed her down a lot too.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. My DH said when he saw the pictures earlier when I was posting what a colourful flock I'd got and how much he likes them. His favourite I think is Evadne as he likes her fluffy little hat :D .

beautiful chickens, where did you get them from?

I got them from Pear Tree Farm near Towcester in Northamptonshire (if you use Firefox you might find that the page doesn't load correctly so I had to revert to IE7). They are not professional breeders just enthusiastic poultry keepers, they do lots of showing I think and have loads of really amazing bantams. My other 3 girls I bought from Cambridge Poultry.

white leghorns are too flighty for me, my brother has them plus I have a white girlie, ok she lays cream eggs, but I think her cream eggs are lovely

He's a really nice man at Cambridge Poultry though, and when I first looked there (when I first set out getting chickens) he didn't do bluebelles!, which was why I got mine eleswhere, and then turned I up to get my chickens and all the bluebelles had all been reserved without them realising I wanted a bluebelle amyway.. so I just got Cocoa and Sugar.

I will get one this time though...
