Eglus and work colleagues

Recommended Posts

Being the proud new owner of a (green eglu) and run my work colleagues constantly hear about it and how I am waiting for its new inhabitants. What really surprises me is that a lot of them when I mention I am getting chickens ask am I getting an Eglu. I have to say I am surprised that so many of them know about Eglus and its great that I get asked on an almost daily basis if I have my chickens yet.

Sorry, pointless post but its great when work colleagues show an interest :D

Lucky you :D . Most of us seem to have colleagues who just go  or change the subject rapidly. (I do have a few who show an interest but most of them haven't heard of the eglu :? .)

You must just have well-informed colleagues 8) . Omlet has been in the press a heck of a lot over the last year or so, so I suppose it's not that surprising.

No post is pointless if it mentions Eglus and chickens!

My colleagues all think I'm crackers, especially lately when I have been regaling them with info about the Kill, Pluck, Gut and Bone course. They sat in open mouthed in disbelief the first time I mentioned it. :D :D Then one asked if I would raise a couple of table birds for her!

They practically come to blows over the eggs though!

When and where are you doing this course?

I'm the weird one at work so the Eglu came as no particular surprise to them, I even did a straw poll to decide on colour, people voted for purple, some without paying attention to what they were voting for! One guy who grew up on a farm thinks I'm particularly weird for wanting to keep chickens in a plastic house in a suburban garden - so I'm always quick to mention that I did have chickens as a kid and they free ranged in fields.

And even though I have told them that my hens are still eggs at the moment under a friends hen they keep asking about them and when they might get some eggs! Far from being inundated with eggs I'm going to be turning people down!

As it happens my Eglu is being delivered in the next couple of hours. There has been a bit of a mix up with the courier company but I think I'm all sorted now.

It's here Janty - sorry I thought I'd copied the link, but what you got was the space poem my daughter had copied last night...ooops

The link starts "Stop Press, Northern Dispatch...." & has about 7 pages running!

I think I'll go bury my head in some sewing, can't do any harm there!:roll:

Hope you're feeling better this morning?

BTW it's amazing how many people do know about Eglus isn't it?!

Whenever I mention Eglus, people seems to sigh and go 'I'd love one, but they're soooo expensive' which makes me  because they don't have to be, and in my opinion the cost is comparable to a well built wooden house and run.

Jo

Ditto  ! And if you get a previously loved one like I did (twice!) the cost is lower anyway...and can you put a price on the ease with which they are cleaned etc and the chooks kept warm and safe? Sorry. I feel a soapbox moment & I'd be preaching to the converted...... **steps gently off the soapbox & scuttles back to her sewing!!**

I get ribbed regularly at work, but then I work with all blokes. I refuse to rise to it and they eventually stop. Mind you, they are pretty keen on the eggs and cakes

I haven't mentioned the boning and rolling course to them as I know what the reaction will be.... somewhat like The Boy's face when he saw me feeding offal (for the dog) into the miner attachment on my Kenwood. Phil's mother (a farmer's wife) offered to teach me how to bone and roll a chook, but the course sounds so much more fun :D

My colleagues still think I'm weird, despite their having knowledge of the Eglu. Mind, they are now asking will the chickens be named (of course) and they would be up for eggs (course they would!!!)

Happy new eglu Wiblick; I was bouncing off the walls on delivery day; couldn't wait. Now just waiting the new inhabitants! :D

That course sounds interesting. I have been asked if I will "necking" the chickens by the work lot but I did say to at least let me have the chickens first! They know full well they will be pets though but like to think they are being funny

A couple of people have known what I'm talking about but most of them are just confused. They like the pictures though, and think they look cool :D .

I've bored all my poor colleagues to death about chickens and told them to stop asking me questions about them as I can't shut up. But they still ask

My head of department has chickens in a wooden coop. I like to crow over how long it takes me to do a very thorough clean of my 2 cubes....

I also had a trainee attached to my tutor group last term who had an eglu

I wouldn't say I talk a lot about chickens BUT - the Omlet site features in a LOT of my lessons (it's very well designed & the content is very safe!)

I've only been at this school since September and I don't eat in the canteen. On my first after school event (open evening) I popped down there to grab some (free) soup and the dinner lady said "oh you're Mrs Evans who keeps chickens" Turns out she has an Eglu, has kept chickens for years and wouldn't go back to a wooden coop for quids.

So yes - I'm the mad chicken lady.
