I have just heard that Jade Goody has been given only weeks to live, despite the new drug that doctors have tried. I cannot even begin to imagine what this must feel like to be told, and her boys are only 4 and 5. I am not even a fan of hers, yet i find this very sad.

 

I wasn't expecting this and although i have never lost anyone to cancer, watching this story unfold in front of my eyes gives me some insight into what it must be like. :cry:

My heart goes out to her and her family.

 

That is what matters no matter who you are or what your circumstances. From what I can see death is never an easy situation to deal with whether you have knowledge/foresight or not.

Two more small children who will have to learn to live wothout a parent at some point in the near future.

From what little I have seen of her.no matter what her past, she has tried to be a good mum, bearing in mind, she did not appear to get a great role model in her own upbringing.

 

I too feel sad for her and her family.

been wracking my brains to work out what you mean but can't, can you enlighten me?

 

I'm wondering if Egluntine means that as a result of all the publicity cervical cancer will be brought to the attention of more and more people (especially young women) and that they can be diagnosed and treated in time (as my young colleague recently was).

 

Sorry if I'm putting words in your mouth, Egluntine :wink: . I'm certainly hoping this may be a postive outcome to this sad story.

It's an awful situation to be in I have lost two of my best friends to cancer, two Grandparents and my OH's auntie is dying of cancer :cry: .

 

 

I think it might encourage ladies to get their smear tests done regularly and to get any abnormal results checked out. I believe she may have ignored some abnormal results earlier on.

 

I wonder if the Race For Life will have any extra entrants as a result?

If one life is saved by taking note of what has happened to Jade Goody, then some good will have come out of a tragedy.

I can honestly say I have more "worried well" coming for smears since Jade's diagnosis. It is very sad. I too am not a fan but feel for this young woman and her children esp as i dont think shes in a particularly steady relationship (youll correct me if I'm wrong) . Is the boys dad around? I would hate to think these 2 small kids would end up with the gran who by all accounts from what i've read isn;t the best of role models. For all her faults Jade seems to have been a caring loving mum. It cant have been easy for her, and with all her mistakes she doesnt deserve this. All I would say is that despite age for smears being 25-65 if you're younger and worried about "strange" symptons get it checked and DONT BE FOBBED OFF. Sorry for being bossy. Part of being a nurse methinks :oops:

eh? no-one needed rescuing :? I haven't been following the story so I had no idea she'd ignored prior warnings that's why I couldn't understand what you meant, now it's been explained I understand totally.

 

I wondered if you were referring to the experimental drug she'd been taking which was referred to in the initial post.

Its such a sad, sad story and one that could have had a different outcome. I was at the hairdressers today and read a column she has written for a celeb mag. She said that people have been advising her to sue the NHS because she had had these abnormal smears for years, bleeding etc but that her doctor has kept telling her there was nothing to worry about. She said she has no plans to sue.

 

I think the thing is that we put our trust in doctors that they know what is best for us and we believe them if they say there is nothing to worry about.

 

I think we have lost the art of listening to our bodies and going with our gut instinct. Perhaps she should have kept pushing for it to be checked more (if it is the case that she had asked her doctor) and had a second opinion done. I know I'm one person who would probably just believe what the doctor has told me.

 

This is a terrible thing to happen to such a young woman and her young family. Hopefully as everyone says, the one good thing will be the heightened awareness of cervical cancer.

Despite what people may think of her doing a reality show about her illness, everything she does is for her 2 boys and she should be commended for that. She's doing the show so her boys can have a stable future.

 

It is such a shame as she is just so young and should have had her whole life ahead of her.

thanks hun :D I don't tend to watch the news and the only newspaper we get is the local free one. I try to avoid the news wherever possible as it's too depressing. I get my news mostly 2nd hand so, although I'd heard the poor girl had cancer, I didn't know the details.

I haven't been following Jade's story as I don't watch TV, nor read gossip mags, but I can only hope that this nrings the issue to the fore and more women will go for regular smears.

 

I close friend of mine died not long ago after a long battle with cervical cancer; she left young family and it would probably not have happened if smears were done more frequently here as they are abroad - she developed cervical cancer just a year after having a clear smear.

 

I've been no stranger to it myself either

 

I will try to keep off my soapbox here, but young women need more information and better education. They also need to be made aware of the role played by the HPV virus in the development of cervical cancer.
