Old Speckled Hen
That is sad. She had breast cancer didn't she? I remember "Are you being served?" a program I didn't particularly like but I loved, and still do, Dad's Army where she was Private Walker's girlfriend, Shirley. Seagazer
That is so sad, I think she had had breast cancer a couple of times over the years. I used to like listening to her on Radio 2 with Steve Wright, they called her the old woman.

SarahJo
Sad news - I too did not realise she was the "Old Woman" on Steve Wrights show. She certainly maintained her dignity throughout the battle with Cancer - bless her.
Ms Marple
Sad news indeed. She was however prepared for it I believe. I did not realise that she was old woman on the Steve Wright show . Wow!

Shirl
It is very sad. Isn't it all so depressing at the moment what with Wendy, Jade and the Camerons? I think I'll stop watching the news until there's some good news around.

chickencam
I have just googled this and it seems that the jury is still out on whether she was the old woman or not.
chelsea
She had breast cancer for a third time . awful isnt it, why is it good people seem to struggle all their life battling illnesses and some nasty people dont. Life seems so unfair sometimes. RIP.
bluekarin
I have just googled this and it seems that the jury is still out on whether she was the old woman or not. I just had a look at Steve Wrights show page http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/wright/biography_oldwoman.shtml and it doesn't look like it was her. According to Wikipedia (though I don't know how reliable they are); "The Old Woman", whose identity has never been revealed, though it is apparent that she is genuinely a senior citizen and not a younger actress (despite her vocal similarity to Wendy Richard). It has been rumoured that she is actress Edna Doré[citation needed]. During the 14 May 2007 edition of Steve Wright in the Afternoon, guest Shane Ritchie referred to Old Woman as Nana Moon: a character from the soap EastEnders played by Hilda Braid. The Old Woman also appears on Channel 4's Paul O'Grady Show where she is credited as "Joyce from Dagenham" - her real name. It is very sad she has died and for her to have suffered with breast cancer so many times.

Cyber Chook
It's very sad news. I thought she was very witty and dry on quiz shows, too, on Radio 4 and TV. I didn't realise she was even ill again. My heart goes out to her family. Caroline
