Ain't Nobody Here

Well, that was a good holiday .....

..... NOT

Drove up to Nairn yesterday, just short of 200 miles. Arrived at brother's house, found key (not quite) where he said it would be. Couldn't get the key to work  . We all tried. It went in but just wouldn't turn :? . Tried phoning friend of brother who sometimes stays there. No answer. Tried phoning brother in Cuba. No answer (not surprising really!). Contemplated staying in a Travelodge in case friend of brother phoned back and had a key. Lucky we didn't, he still hasn't responded.

So we drove to Aviemore, had fish and chips and drove back to Edinburgh  . Managed to text brother who replied that they'd tested the key but the lock is "a bit stiff" .

Not my idea of a great holiday, over 5 hours in a car and packing everything up just to unpack it all the same day :( .

Still, at least I'm here to deal with my broody Maisie  and get the vegetable patch/herb planters under way :) .

Looking back, I'm surprised how calm we all were  . We called my brother a few names but just accepted the situation and got on with going home :) .

I had a great day today :) . Bought some stuff at B&Q to make my WIR rain/wind blinds, then went to a new garden centre (family owned) which was lovely - I'm going to a workshop next Saturday on how to grow veg 8):D . Bought a mini greenhouse thing and some border shears and got some great advice from the lovely staff there.

Cut the grass, made some modifications/improvements to my WIR, piled up the old turf to compost down, invented a self-closing gate to stop our dog killing our new grass with his widdle and watered the lawn :D .

Now we're waiting for our Indian carryout to arrive and the beers are in the fridge :D .

My sympathies ANH - Plum's idea is quite good though. Having said that I am very impressed with your list of jobs from today!!

I am waiting to go and pickup DH and YS from their 'romantic' weekend in Prague, having got back from my sad trip to Dublin last night. My OS seems to be much better and is going up to Strathclyde early tomorrow morning. I have shocked him by making bread and a cake - the new me with chickens!!!! I daresay it will be veg next- maybe!!!

What a palaver as they say, ANH, but having a 'stay-cation' is so now, don't you know.

Twice we've driven 120 miles to Suffolk, to where my husband's parents have an old falling down windmill, found we'd left the keys in London, driven back to London and then driven back to Suffolk, out of sheer stubbornness and determination not to be beaten by fate.

And on at least three occasions over the years, we've arrived back in London around midnight, only to suddenly remember that we've left a raw chicken/lump of ham/sausages in the (unplugged) fridge or out on the table. So we've had to turn around and drive back, and then back to London. Mind you, there've also been times when we haven't remembered at all, and discover The Lump when we go the next time...
