My lovely girls all killed

Recommended Posts

How awful for you - but as everyone has said, don't blame yourself. It can happen to anyone, and it wasn't because you were not taking care of them. We've all had moments when we've forgotten to close the run/replace the eggport or something similar.

Big hugs, hope you and your ten-year old can come to terms with the trauma. Go on posting on here, we will want to hear how you're feeling in a day or two.

I am so sorry to read what has happened and whilst it is hard don't blame yourself.

Your girls had a happy life away from the battery farm and hopefully in time you will be able to have some more chickens.

Big Hugs and hope your daughter is ok too

I'm so sorry for your loss - but don't beat yourself up. Twice in the last year my hens haven't been put to bed securely - once I forgot and another time 'someone' took the egg port door right off and I didn't notice when locking them up ! As it has been said it could have happened to any one on here - hope you get through it - you gave those girls some freedom they may not have otherwise had. Susie

I'm so, so sorry to hear about this  . I had tears in my eyes just reading your post, you can tell how much they meant to you :( . Please don't blame yourself, we've all done something similar (I once went to work for a whole day and left them freeranging by mistake - I was lucky :? ). I hope once you've got over the shock, you will consider getting some more girls. You did a lovely thing rescuing your girls and I'm sure you can do the same again. I hope your little girl is OK.

So sorry to hear of your sad loss, what a huge shock that must have been.

I hope you feel a little less guilty today, it's a punishing emotion in these circumstances.

As others have said, I'm sure that with time you'll be able to fondly remember the quality of life you were able to offer your girls, and the happiness they brought you. Don't leave it too long before getting some more - and maybe a Foxwatch too if you can stretch to that?

Hugs for you.

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to reply with such kind words - it is much appreciated.

My son and I buried the girls in the sunshine today at my allotment and Violet was reunited with Rose and Lily who had both died due to illness - the three of them were my very first escapees from the battery farm and all will hold a very special place in my heart.

Best regards

Jules

Feel really sad reading your story. Dont blame yourself. You have done really well for your girls. We cant watch over them every hour. They have had a great life . I recommend a really good cry (previous experience),and give yourself a wee bit time to recover and get more chickens. Dont be put off.Take care. :(

Hi Jules

glad you had a sunny day to lay your girls to rest. This is by far the saddest story that I have ever read.

Lets hope that you soon will be feeling ready for introducing more chickens into your life..you are a very good chicken mummy!
