Having never had chickens before, I was a wee bit scared when I first saw the size of their feet and nails ... however, the 6 that we got are the friendliest bunch we could have asked for, and we have handled them as frequently as possible over the last 5 weeks - now, they are constantly coming to us for attention and they hum as we stroke them

 

This picture shows Clara sitting behind me as she laid her first ever egg - I was truly honoured that she chose to lay there!

 

 

And in this one, my other half was trying to read a book, but Ruby had other ideas

And lovely Ruby perched on the book - my girls seemed to think the printed words on the page were food somehow and would peck at the black marks!!

No Patricia, I don't have to sit there every day, it was a one-off. Maybe she was just a bit nervous about her first lay.

 

Had a nice cup of tea out in the garden this morning with the girls (our usual early morning routine), and the cat also came out to help me keep an eye on them - how sweet!

Hmm yes, garden has been half-devoured by the chooks - roses, sweet peas, mangetout, you name it, gone! - we've had to fence off some areas from them, but it's all good now. They are eyeing up the lettuce and broad beans, but thus far, unable to get to them!

The chooks ahvent been in the house yet - not thru want of trying tho! I dread the day they work out how to use the cat flap...
