My new chicken friends (pics)

Recommended Posts

Having never had chickens before, I was a wee bit scared when I first saw the size of their feet and nails :anxious: ... however, the 6 that we got are the friendliest bunch we could have asked for, and we have handled them as frequently as possible over the last 5 weeks - now, they are constantly coming to us for attention and they hum as we stroke them 8)

This picture shows Clara sitting behind me as she laid her first ever egg - I was truly honoured that she chose to lay there!

And in this one, my other half was trying to read a book, but Ruby had other ideas

Aren't chickens lovely? :D

Aren;t they just gorgeous? I'm soooo envious!!

So sweet that Clara chose to lay her first egg behind you on the bench - that brings a lump to my throat, how trusting!!

And lovely Ruby perched on the book - my girls seemed to think the printed words on the page were food somehow and would peck at the black marks!!

Enjoy your lovely ladies!!

Thanks guys!

No Patricia, I don't have to sit there every day, it was a one-off. Maybe she was just a bit nervous about her first lay.

Had a nice cup of tea out in the garden this morning with the girls (our usual early morning routine), and the cat also came out to help me keep an eye on them - how sweet!

I thought it was only cats that sat on things you were trying to read

Looks like you have a lovely garden........Hmm, does it say anything in that book about chickens and lovely gardens?

I hope Ruby can't read upside down  otherwise she'll be getting :idea::idea::idea::shock:

Hmm yes, garden has been half-devoured by the chooks - roses, sweet peas, mangetout, you name it, gone! - we've had to fence off some areas from them, but it's all good now. They are eyeing up the lettuce and broad beans, but thus far, unable to get to them!
