Very impressed with the quality of the run. My garage smells lovely and woody too!

 

You can just see the nearest panel has double doors. This part is an internal wall (Bit like DebsL's run but much smaller) Thought it would make intros easier or it could turn my run into two sections for a hospital wing if needed. (See wall B in the plan i sent Tony)

Hmmm love a nice woody smell. That's a pretty good photo even so. The plans add an extra dimension. Is this a first? Looking forward to when it's up and running.

 

Cookie, don't know about Debs's chickens, but mine always ignored their ball. It only moved when they wanted to scratch under it.

I'm getting so jittery seeing all those pics and wonderful walk in runs...

We are still planning ours, and contacted Tony, but also have one other option which we are looking into (Tony's communications are really prompt and helpful by the way, not disappointed there)...

The thing is, now, I can already picture the run for the chooks, and I want one for the rabbits too!!!

It would be so heavenly to go and look after the pets and enjoy seeing them and cleaning them without having to be a yoga master... and mostly the extra space for them, that's still the best incentive...

Then also thinking an aviary would be great... with canaries and finches... ummmm

Anyone knows how to expand a garden to three times its size??

hello, just been reading through your posts - yes all 18 pages of them. We are planning a wir but hubbie is planning on designing and building it himself (although might just have to ply him with alcohol and curry and show him tony's website......)

 

Was interested in what you had built yours on. We were planning on leveling the surround with railway sleepers and filling the middle with soil and then sitting the wir just inside the sleepers. I think it would be better to rest on the sleepers as it might sink.....

 

 

by thte way - is it possible i am addicted to this forum even before i have the chickens????

Well it ook no alcohol and the offer of curry to get him to agree to me getting a quote from tony!!!

 

Having read through the posts we are changing our mind on the base and going to be going for slabs across the lot I think. Whats the waiting time for Tony? Not that I am itching to orderit or anything!!!!!

 

 

Can we paint tony's avaries? I had my heart set on a green one..... to go with the i am yet to buy....

We have part slab and part concrete with about a 5 inch strip in the middle which the girls love digging down into.

 

You won't regret getting a 'Tony' WIR. My girls are very happy in theirs. I think there is no problem with painting the runs and I'm not sure what his lead time is now, I think I waited a month or so.

Depending on how big your run is going to be, how about a base of concrete all around the edge for the run to sit on with the inside left for aubiose for them to scrab about in?

We probably won't go for concrete but maybe breeze blocks had been thinking of keeping it soil in the middle but the thought of having to dig the auboise out instead of sweeping it up does not appeal. I have a bad back which is generally ok but does play up now and again and puts digging off the menu!!

I have a dodgy back which I have to be aware of (although it's been fine for a while now luckily) which is why I have the concrete base and cube on the outside of the run... and even the cube itself as I had an eglu before an it hurt my back to lift the pieces around.

I have half slabs and half soil and I have never needed to DIG out the aubiose.

 

As the WIR has a roof the soils is so dry that i can sweep that too!

I actually hurt my back at the weekend lugging a bag of chicken bedding/poo to the compost bin. Definitely a job for my hubby in the future!

just got quote back and i think its fin - hubby reckons its a big expensive. But think i am talking him round...... Hubbie could put it together himself which saves £60.....

 

Do we need the double doors for getting the cube out????

I would think that you would need double doors to remove the cube.

 

A lot of people have the cube on the outside, this way you can open and close door and get at the egg port without going into the run.

 

I have my cube on the outside and find this really handy as I can collect eggs whilst dressed for work and wearing high heels!

If you have the cube on the outside does that not mean there is more chance of foxes and polecats getting in the gap where the two join......

There are no gaps where my cube joins...as the cube front is flat it is possible to build a wooden frame around the pop hole

I have mine on the outside too. Haven't had any problems so far.
