Tiggy
We have all had the sore throat and cough thing, which it would be interesting to know whether or not it is another virus doing the rounds or swine flu. We have my BIL & SIL and baby nephew coming for a couple of days on their way to a holiday in Cornwall. We have warned them about this, but we are all well now apart from residual coughs. They are fine about it saying that they can't keep Henry away from other people for the next few months, but it does worry me because he is still very small. there is ALWAYS another virus going around, tell me about it at the moment we have influenza both swine flu & normal seasonal variety, summer colds and a diarrhoea & vomiting bug (nova virus). In our area when we were doing swabs only about 2% of the people with flu symptoms had swine flu, all the others had another variety of virus - so we stopped bothering to swab & now treat at risk folks with tamiflu regardless of the virus causing symptoms, the outcome is the same anyhow. Sunshine
There have been 3 cases at my sisters primary school and a letter has been sent home from the primary school and high school telling us that the school won't close and that they will keep us updated. My dad had flu like symptoms last week but just paracetamol and drank Beechams hot blackcurrant stuff with painkillers in. I have never known him take a day off work for being ill. He didn't seem to have it that long either which makes me think its not swine flu. It doesn't help that the media is using big figures of how many people doctors have predicted will get it and out of them how many people will die. It makes me more worried about getting it. I suspect it will spread in the primary school, although they are finishing tomorrow after the yr6 leavers assembly when everyone will be in the hall. The Dogmother
We now have contingency plans in place at work, so that we're prepared and have a plan in case any staff members come down with it, or one of the offices is left unattended. So far, only one freelancer, who works in London, has caught it. Most people seem to have a family member, or know someone who has had it. Speaking to a Dr friend last night, he said that one of the main distinguishing features is the *errrm* watery diarrhoea.
Seagazer
My ES who I swear has had it has been sent about 40 pages of swine flu documents from work, 'elf and safety gone completely mad. He's annoyed because they are going on about him giving them a doctors certificate/letter and yet all the documents say stay away from work. He was off work for about 4 days and has been in for the last week and a half. Most probably spread it around nicely.
Valkyrie
Well over the last few days I can add to the symptoms. Yes to watery you knows - but then I get IBS anyway. Nausea - might be linked to headaches and atmospheric conditions along with a change of specs. I refuse to be nauseous. Nauseating is more me. But that comes and goes - can be fine one day, then it nags at the back of your throat. Sore throat and cold symptoms gone, cough lingers. Now have we or haven't we. If I haven't I'd better go on a diet for the sake of the pallbearers come the winter!

The Dogmother
Rosie got home from school and called me at work to say that she has a sore throat. Not sure whether she actually has, or wants to get out of swimming team practice
Steve.
We think we might have it. Eldest had a watery poo all Saturday (and world's worst nappy rash) and youngest had the squits Monday night. They both had temperatures but nothing Calpol couldn't fix. They have been so tired for 8 days but perked up today considerably - all bright eyed and bushy-tailed despite the youngest cutting a molar today. DW and I have been suffering the last few days. She has the cough from hell. GP didn't want to prescribe anything as our boys got better themselves with sleep & paracetamol. I've been off work the last couple of days. I've never felt so tired - though seem to have stayed up late tonight so must be on the mend. We both have all the symptoms apart from didn't get to 38'C temperature and neither of us have had the squits. Though we both have bad tummies our house stinks like a farmyard ... maybe this is why it is called Swine Flu?
Valkyrie
Mum has the sore throat now. Apart from being a little old lady, she is quite healthy, so if she does have it, then she should be OK.
bluekarin
I hadn't really thought about this until this week after reading the list of those people who might be worsely (not even a word, sorry!) affected. My YD is on some meds which supress her immune system and can cause her to get less severe illnesses (colds etc) quite badly. *touchwood* she's been okay up to now, but I am getting a bit worried about what if? That is a bit of a worry Karin - can you do what you can to help her immune system? - diet? Echinacea? that sort of thing? Do these things make a difference if the immune system is suppressed anyway? We had thought that Lauren's runny tummy was because she'd re-introduced wheat back into her diet - but combined with the cough, sore-throat, temperature........ She was sent home from school with all this on Monday but improved with Paracetamol......a girl in her class was confirmed as having SF on Wednesday.........Lauren wasn't poorly enough to phone the GP when there are others who must be worse so it has gone un-reported. I would speak to the doctors perhaps there are things in place for children like her. Tamiflu or vaccination if an when it comes. I don't know, just a thought really. I would definately have a word with someone you never know. Just had 1st reported death in Swindon. JD sick in night and now has a headache

JD sick in night and now has a headache I have just had a read on the tinterweb and I am not the only one who is worried by this. The medication she is on is called Methotrexate, which when you google it, you get links for things to do with cancer etc I can tell you I had a real shock when I first heard she'd be on it thinking what aren't the drs telling us? It seems if she does have to take Tamiflu, she'll have to be watched closely to make sure her toxins aren't raised. More blood tests I feel, which I'm sure she'll just love. Not! The NHS swine flu advice info page says this I’m on immunosuppressants. Am I more at risk from swine flu? Yes. If you take immunosuppressants you have a greater risk of becoming infected with any virus, including swine flu, and will be less able to fight it off once you have it. Will my dose of immunosuppressants be altered in the event of an outbreak? Your doctor may advise that your dose of immunosuppressants needs to change. The appropriate dose will vary from patient to patient. Can I take antivirals if I’m on immunosuppressants? Yes, on the advice of a doctor it is safe for you to take Tamiflu or Relenza. I will be phoning her dr on Monday just to make sure and get any advice on what best to do. I'm sure though, if there was a worry, someone would have phoned to let us know. Wouldn't they? Chickvic
Me! I thought I'd had it a few weeks ago very mildly. I was sent home from work yesterday and have been absolutely dreadful. I have asthma and the Dr prescribed tamiflu. I must admit I feel better today, my chest still really aches but my eyes and nose have stopped running and my temperature has come down. No-one else I know of has had it but I have found out since that it is in my school
Alis girls
Our borough of Barnet is badly hit. YS school is rife with it and a friends son has it quite bad. We checked with our holiday company about it as we are off to spain in Aug- thet=y say we are covered. My dad has come down for OH birthday - I hope her doesnt catch it. Steve.
Swine Flu (if I had) it was a breeze and apart from feeling very odd wasn't (for me) too bad. I guess this is why there were all these 'Swine Flu' parties with folks realising that it wasn't that bad. So don't worry about it - I wasn't ill enough to have to go to bed (though did veg in front of the computer / TV).
Chucky Mama
My YD had all of the symptoms on Saturday morning. I thought that was it she had it but by 11 o'clock she was up and normal again. I wonder how many that are self quaranteening actually have it. Now that they have stopped testing we have no idea what is really going on and neither do the people coming up with the stats
