Couperwife
when I lived in Manchester (well, Rochdale then Stockport) they were called Bacon Barms (as in barm cakes ) you could call them buns, or baps, or rolls
Guest
well, you've come to the right place! Egluntyne
Singular = butty Plural = butties. Put 'sandwiches' on the menu and save them arguing.
Omletina Kyckling
I'm with Poet and Ubereglu on this, butty and butties!
jlo
One butty. Several butties. You will have to give your office the definitive Omleteer answer!!
majorbloodnock
Agreed that, irrespective, the plural must end in "ies". Therefore, to avoid argument, just avoid offering them singly; if necessary, cut the thing in half and offer it up as "a round of bacon butties". Lesley
Please don't mention 'butts' to my grandson - actually today's word of the day was not butt........we spent a while identifying an egg which belonged to a small bird...... ....caused much hilarity... Sorry........butty and butties.
Valkyrie
Never thought about it before - I assumed it was chip buttie - like Barbara J. And definitely butties for more than one. Usually referred to (apart from the chip version) as bacon sarnie or sarnies etc. I do tend to say hammy sammy even thought it is a sandwich - also used for other fillings. Oh to be a fly on the wall to see the expressions on adult faces when youngsters start with the rude words! Poor Lesley!
