Ain't Nobody Here

Another eventful holiday - update on Riley

Recommended Posts

I took Riley to my vet yesterday. It's been over 4 weeks since his accident so I just wanted him checked over.

I thought he was recovering quite well but was aware that his hind legs still didn't look quite right when he was walking. Anyone else probably wouldn't have noticed. He's obviously not in pain but does labour up and down steps (and onto beds!)

The vet watched him walk up and down the pavement and said that his odd gait is nothing to do with his hip  . He thinks he must have damaged something further up his spine :( . We have to keep him on short 15-20 min lead walks for the next 4/5 weeks when I should take him back in to see the vet. He said he could do an x-ray but there probably wouldn't be anything he could do so there's not much point.

We'll see if he recovers over that time and maybe get an x-ray then, just in case it can tell us what is wrong.

At least Tesco Pet Insurance will have to pay out a bit more  .

ANH, has the vet mentioned hydro-therapy...that'd be swimming to you & me!!

My eldest 2 labs have had leg problems (crutiate ligament for Jess and luxating patella x2 for Poppy  ) & have both benefitted hugely from swimming sessions. Lots of the other pooches who go to the dog pool have spine problems. Now they just go for the fun of it..they love leaping in off the side...my baby Daisy has taken the "warning..do not bomb..do not run...do not shout..do not etc etc etc" sign and made it her purpose to do everything she's not supposed to :oops:

Hope he feels better soon, poor little man,

Sha x
