I have turned on the heating

Recommended Posts

Nope - still holding out chez Olly, I have lit the woodburner a couple of times this week and I've had a snuggly rug in the evenings, but the heating is still off.

I've got friends coming round for dinner next Friday and I bet I will have to give in then, though. Might be ok if we stay in the kitchen with the oven on!

Still holding out, having ugg boots as slippers is helping alot :)

Costco have fab ugg style shearling boots at the mo but they come up big so you need to get a size smaller than your usual size, I got a pair of childrens short boots for £15.99 vat free & a pair of adults tall boots for £24.99 plus vat, perhaps on reflection it would be cheaper to put the heating on

 I think it's more of a job for his electrician - old Honeywell controls gone kaput. Well at least it works so if we have a cold spell we won't suffer. I guess he is doing all the emergency stuff first. Mum had her boiler fixed a month ago and she still hasn't had the invoice. I wonder if they need a receptionist/bookkeeper.

I cracked last night - yesterday it was 13 degrees in the bedroom when I woke up, I could cope with that, but last night I decided that it was actually starting to affect what I was doing in the house. I have compromised, only the bedroom and bathroom radiators are on at the moment, all the rest are turned to zero on the thermostats, and it's only coming on for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. It didn't actually seem to make much difference to the room temperature this morning, but it was lovely taking a hot towel off the radiator.

Still resisting - just!

Called the servicing company today to check out the heating system before gets switched on (very old, and paranoid about Gas and CO2).

But having said that, it might just get switched on for an hour tonight...

Was so hoping to make it to November - but it was VERY cold last night!!

We have had the woodburner lit from late afternoon each day, but no heating. ED has reynaulds and she came down last night before she went to bed with white feet and icy hands. The children have to choose, either on the computer in their rooms, cold, or with mum and dad in the lounge warm.

We are trying to hold out with the heating until we are back from our half term break, and even then only for short periods in the late afternoon when the children come home and at weekends. Although we will probably relent and put it on low when we are away because the cats are staying at home with a carer coming in once a day, and we can't have them cold now can we.

Well, was aiming for November, but have cracked tonight, my hands were so cold I couldn't help YS with his buttons and he screamed every time I came into contact with his skin as I helped him get ready for bed! Have been piling on the clothes for the past couple of weeks but I draw the line at wearing gloves inside!

Our plumber is coming tomorrow, whoohoo. He is also going to give the boiler the once over just to make sure it's working fine. It will probably be the pump upstairs that goes - done that before one freezing new year (and we had visitors). I'll be glad when the heating can be turned off, it's giving me nosebleeds when it goes on - but we need it for the hot water (DD complained that there was no warm water to rinse the shampoo yesterday).

I don't know how you lot do it. My heating has been on morning and evening for two weeks now. Today I was having a lazy day reading with no house chores so I lit the small wood/coal burner in the kitchen/dining room as well.

I hate having to bundle up under layers and duvets.

When I was a child our house had one open fire with a back boiler. The windows used to freeze up on the inside and getting up in the morning was a mad dash down to the kitchen where mum had put on the gas cooker with the oven door ajar. Strangely enough I don't remember ever being cold though :roll:

It's so cold tonight that I've.....CLOSED THE CURTAINS!

and the door in the living room and the woodburner is going and I'm wearing fleecy jammies, fluffy socks, fleecy dressing gown, fluffy blanket and a dog.

No heating though :D

I don't like being cold BUT hate having the heating on as I usually feel a bit bleugh when it is on :? I'm also being tight as we had a new boiler fitted in 2008 and although we used loads less gas last year we ended up paying so much more in bills due to the costs having increased so much. This year as well DH has had an overtime ban at work and his hours reduced plus no wage rise so it's a case of piling on extra layers for as long as possible I think.

Well since I posted this I can truthfully say that heating has not been on again, so am doing really well, stove is running every night which keeps living room nice and toasty and then just make a run for it when it's bed time and dive under my winter quilt! Sounds awful outside tonight though, wind and rain.

Well unknown to me until late evening last night my dad had turned on the heating! He is the one that always moans about the cost etc so its usually mum that gives in and puts it on. I don't have a radiator in my room so it doesn't feel any warmer to me up here. He has then suprised me again because its on again tonight! Shocking! Plus i actually think the heating has made a difference so far i was actually wanting to take my fleece off this evening because i was too hot! Usually i don't get any warmer when the heating is on, i often sit next to the aga(always tempted to sit on it though!)

So we lasted until November. Not too bad i don't think. I do think in the proper winter i will have to get a small heater for my room. Although i only have half of my extra warm duvet on, no fluffy socks or fleecy pjs so got lots of extra things to do first.
