Chicken Licken

I have turned on the heating

Recommended Posts

Not got as far as lighting the fire yet. Mum has used the calor fires a couple of times. So far the Aga heat has been sufficient - the kitchen is toasty and the living room is chilly but only blanket chilly.

I did wear my fleecy jammies to bed last night, with socks!

Nope - nearly lit the woodburner yesterday, but the heating won't be going on for a few weeks. I can't remember how long I held out last year but it was well into October.

In fact, I'll probably weaken the first time I have visitors, I am happy to put a big jumper on and snuggle up with a hot cat, but people seem to expect a higher temperature these days. I did put the electric blanket back on the bed this week though, so I'm toasty at night.

Interesting article here about how heating has changed the way we live.

I held out till January last year but we were away at Christmas. Mind you I don't fancy going away now this Christmas - would like to cancel actually although that would mean Christmas was a total non event for us again.

Interesting article, thanks. We didn't have any central heating till we moved here in 2001, we didn't have any double glazing either. It was very cold in the winter, we would sleep in jumpers etc. I now don't take my heating for granted and only put it on if necessary and for only short times every day. Ours hasn't been on yet and I doubt it will be on till at least Nov and then very low just to keep the chill off. We have loads of blankets around the house so there is no reason to be sat cold.

My inlaws are the complete opposite of me, their heating is on nearly all year round and it is sooo hot there. I cannot stand it, I spend lots of time in the garden with the kids when we are there lol

We've had to turn the heating on here this evening. Even wearing a jumper and thick socks twas utterly freezing. I hate the winter the cold feels like it gets into my bones and makes it hard to move. i don't like having the heating on by when i start getting joint pain it becomes a nessessity

No heating yet. I am sat here in a fluffy dressing gown and fluffy slippers. Plus i am having a hot water bottle tonight as i stupidly cold feet.

When we have our heating on i never find it makes much difference so i just add more layers. In the house we are in now i have frequently worn hats and gloves to bed as its too cold. I'm in the attic room now which gets freezing in winter so i have an extra warm duvet and i'm planning on getting a mini heater for when it gets really cold and snowy.

Have rediscovered how nice hand quilting can be at this time of year. Thing is I dozed off because it was sooo cozy underneath it. Other than that the heating is still off and my feet are always cold from the shins down - surprisingly it is a very good tactic for stopping OH snoring - cold feet makes him hop!

And I always thought I felt the cold!

Heating definitely not turned on yet - will hold out as long as possible - hopefully at least November!! Still sleeping with the big window in the bedroom open, and the big sliding back door is only closed when we go up to bed!

And no, not wrapped in fleeces, and got the light summer quilt still on the bed, and we, well, hmmm, don't wear an awful lot in bed either  !!

Perhaps our little bit of darkest Surrey is a warm spot in the country...:lol:

I've given in......just because we are in credit on our gas direct debits. :)

.

But you SHOULD be in credit - then at the end of the winter you should owe them - if that's not what happens you are paying too much.

We end up owing the leccie but of course we have to buy our oil up front so it all balances out.
