Cinnamon
Just back from a trip to Henley, which is a college town. Can anyone tell me why teenage boys insist on showing you their undies in their low slung jeans? Has no one told them that it looks ridiculous & makes them walk as if they have just had an accident? One lad in front of me had his jeans so low that his ENTIRE bum cheek was out - yes,his jeans waist was below his butt cheek. Just as well he had nice Calvins on,really
The Dogmother
I'm with you on this one Sarah - I have a college near my office and see them parading past all day it's not attractive.
Paola
I am always tempted to pull the trousers up for them
debbier
My son does it with his next undies. He knows I hitch his trousers up if I can get close enough. He doesn't wear his as low as some, though. He lives in dread of me hitching up his friends when they come round. Do they think it's sexy, cool, rebellious, or what? I just think it looks stoooopid. Chucky Mama
It is so funny when their bare bums are exposed . I think it is supposed to be all gangstar related but most don't realise. It refers to those bad boys in prison who have to have their belts taken away, therefore trousers tend to get loose and fall down a bit. Of course most boys don't realise this and have their trousers halfway down their backsides whilst still wearing the belt
The Dogmother
In some cases the trousers appear to be stitched to the pants.
Space Chick
Just as well he had nice Calvins on,really Should you have noticed that Sarah It is a trend that has been around for a while, I remember seeing American films going back 15 years ago and the teenagers were doing it then. Oh well, looking on the bright side, at least when they get older and fatter their jeans will still fit
The Dogmother
When I used to live in London (we're talking late 80s, early 80s here) the gangsta element were just strating to get into the baggy trews, large trainers and daft walk. Round here, the jeans are now a lot skinner - think like a hobble - and very tight round under the bum I no like it
Lewis
In some cases the trousers appear to be stitched to the pants. They are in some I don't wear mine halfway down my bum but my brother does + mother always moans at him
Egluntyne
Not a pretty sight is it? My friend was mortified when out shopping with her 82 year old mother, who pulled a lad's trousers up for him and told him he'd 'catch his death of cold!' . freddie
ha!!! I went up to a youth the other day, and informed him that whilst none of the hot young girls were looking, there were several of us ladies having a good old peek, He turned round, just as my three freinds waved at him, and grinned. UP came the trousers But a mate of my dera son, who shall be nameless, has his mum yelling "xxx" PANTS... at him everyu so often, only for him to turn round and yell back "yeah, nice , aren't they!!" Woodcat
My mother was once really evil to a boy who did that she said in a loud enough voice he could hear "it's so unattractive to see a boys underwear.''I've never seen a boy hitch his trousers so fast in my life. twas mean but very funny

PurpleTree
I am always tempted to pull the trousers up for them I'm always tempted to pull them down, would be far more embarrassing for them when I met Hubby he used to wear his jeans low with his pants waist band on show, and his crotch somewhere around his knees. It was mostly because he'd buy really large size jeans because he couldn't be bothered to try them on Once he moved in with me (and my parents), he was soon wearing properly fitting trousers
Gem_Seb
There was a lad in my college, (going back about 8 years ago now!) that had his trousers so low he practically waddled around like a penguin! it was funny watching him trying to step up the step onto the coach as well! Ain't Nobody Here
I agree, it looks ridiculous . Do they never need to run for a bus? That would be a sight to see . Luckily, neither of my teenage boys are into clothes so wear normal things like jeans that fit and joggers .
Alis girls
I regularly pull ES's up and take him by surprise I also barked "pull yer trousers up to his mate" who jumped to attention and did just that My colleague who is a mum to 3 teens and a nurse too said to a dopey teen leaving the room "..... and pull your trousers up" and he did Cinnamon if I had the answer to your query I would tell you - it is gangsterish but frankly if you were robbing a bank and trying to run in low slung jeans you woouldnt get far
Guest
I don't know if it is true, but our teenage apprentice at work, who proports to be a bit of an expert on these matters tells me it has a much more sinister meaning. It comes from prison culture!
Happy chickens!
Yes - something to do with not being allowed a belt in prison, so your trousers fall down. Expect our grandparents generation found mini skirts a lot more shocking!
docsquid
It's even more ridiculous when you go skiing and they still have their trousers round their bum and their underwear hanging out - I'd freeze to death, particularly if I was on a snowboard and had to sit down and fiddle with my bindings all the time.* * I can board as well as ski in case you think I'm prejudiced
Chookiehen
My oldest two (11 & 10) still insist on tucking their polo shirts into their boxers, so are careful to ensure that their trousers are well pulled up. I also insist in buying the Asda Smartprice boxers, so they're not worth flaunting....
jlo
My friend was mortified when out shopping with her 82 year old mother, who pulled a lad's trousers up for him and told him he'd 'catch his death of cold!' . I wonder if she was related to the little old lady who poked at my (only a little bit) bare back when I was bending over to take something off a low shelf in Marks the other month. "You'll catch your death," she told me. I don't think I was showing my knickers though! DS has shorts that come down and show his undies but his jeans are thankfully hitched up. Karen & co.
Low slung jeans here too from ED Same with all his friends, all I get is if I mention it Karen x
majorbloodnock
I remember it being explained to me a while ago. Apparently, in the US, police in less salubrious areas such as the Bronx used to remove the belt from someone they arrested since it's difficult to run quickly with one hand holding your trousers. That gave rise to the fashion in question - theoretically a statement of solidarity with the gang members. Of course, nowadays a teenager is not displaying solidarity so much as a spotty cheek, but it's the thought that counts. Allegedly.
Karen & co.
I have to say boys boxers are better and contain more fabric than girls thongs I hate walking round the science class room when the pupils are all leaning over the desks sat on stools much easier when they are on chairs with a back in them.
