I find it really funny when my girls puff themselves up all big, then do a big shake to sort their feathers out. I also find it amusing when their tummies suddenly make a squelchy noise - worryingly my tummy also makes a similar sound...! How they always know where I have tidied up in the garden, and make a bee-line for that spot to dig aroud and send earth flying in all directions inc over the path? How they run around chasing each other for a special titbit one of them has found? How they call for their porridge about an hour before sundown every night at the back door, not giving up till it's made or it's bed time! Or how they always look so cute in their eglu at night, all snuggled up together! Or how they sit on each others head in an attempt to get the optimum position to sunbathe or dust bathe in! I love it when they give a little flap to give them a boost when charging across the garden to see if I have any treats for them. I also love they chase insects around the garden. Chicken Shirl Posted October 19, 2009 Share Posted October 19, 2009 I love it when my cockerel throws a leaf or a bit of twig around and chatters excitedly to get them all over to him, then pounces on one of them. In a very genteel way of course!! I love it when Pricessa comes on my knee and stretches out her neck for me to stroke her down her head and back, just like a chick does sometimes when they are sleeping. I love it when I have given them their food in the morning and they all fly off down the garden chasing each other. Lets face it we all love everything they do. I love it when everything is suspiciously quiet in the garden and then a beaky face with a shifty expression in its eye pops up from the middle of the spinach plants; or when one of them strolls away from the veg patch trying to look nonchalant. I love it when they start to whine when they are in the run when they can hear the conservatory door open so that they know one of us is about. About five days in I looked into the house at night and they were all three snuggled together. That really warmed my heart. I also love it when one gets a piece of pasta/lettuce and runs away pursued by the other two. Chucky1 Posted October 20, 2009 Share Posted October 20, 2009 Two things I love it when they are all at the top of the field, see one of us and imagine that we are about to give them a treat. They all take off, running and flying towards us - we call it a "Squadron Scramble". The other thing that just totally amazed me. Normally our gals take every opportunity to beg for treats, sneak into the kitchen, or when all that fails to jump up on the window sills and tap on the window with their beaks. Well last week we had some bad news and were both a little upset though we tried not to communicate how we felt to the gals and just carried on chatting to them as normal. Would you believe it, no begging, no sneaking into the kitchen - they all just spent the day like normal chickens Back to normal next day though. I love it when the girls go to bed and all squash into the nest box side by side like sardines. All I can see is one continuous mass of feathers with 4 little combs poking out. I find it hilarious that they are obsessed with crocs and follow me round the garden pecking at my feet. Also when they think my shoelaces are enormous prize worms and try to run off with them Also when they all squash up against the run door when I come out into the garden (I am so cruel for keeping them imprisoned!), and when I let them out they belt round the garden for 30secs then go back in the run because that's where their food is!
