Chook talk at the Hospice

Recommended Posts

Following on from the chicken talk thread a week or so ago, I've now done my chook talk at the local day hospice :D I had arranged to go in in a fortnight as I thought I had extra children today, but I didn't so took my children in with the Pekin babies

Everyone was beautifully behaved...the children who held the little feather balls...........the patients...the staff and of course the stars of the show Oak, Lavender, Holly and Berry :clap::clap::clap:

I took a pile of photos of the various chooks that I had mounted onto A5 heavy duty paper to make it easy for the patients to look at & wrote little bits about each chook.....and diddy jars of their food, corn & grit....... the patients were asking questions...... doctors were popping in for an oooo and aaaaa.....judging by the number of strange staff faces I saw I think word had spread to the ward that the day hospice had unusual visitors today

And the best bit of all, my neighbour's MiL who works there was most surprised when I said I couldn't keep a cockerel as her son in law would get upset...she told me to ignore him & keep the little boy whether he stays quiet or not  She was very impressed with the babies, she's never seen them before.

They'd like me to take pigs in next........:lol:

Great stuff Sha!

Sounds like it went to plan and everyone enjoyed themselves!

Although are you sure your babes are Pekins? My lot would have screamed the place down, curry pooed on everyone and generally been little blighters!

Well done Pekin Babes....you must of made your mum very proud! :D

Well done to the Wild Kids too of course!

And WELL DONE SHA!!!

Oh yes they are Pekins, otherwise Tasha doesn't have a Lavender Frizzle Pekin boy as he's their brother

They did flap & shriek a bit, but shut up instantly they had their little heads tucked into a jacket, once they were settled they poked their heads out & said hello to the patients..no poos extruded except in the cat basket and they all snaffled happily on the pellet porridge I had taken for them whilst I waffled for England

And yes I am a very proud mummy :D Thank you Em!!

I started off the talk saying that if they touched the chooks they had to use some antibac gel.......not sure they'd have bothered otherwise  The children were under strict instruction not to let the chooks be taken from them, we are used to their little ways, I had no intention of disappearing up the corridor in hot pursuit of a panicking feather ball :anxious: H&S would have a fit :shock:

What a brilliant thing to do 8) . I bet they're talking about it for days :D .

Oh yes they will, my babies will become the stuff of legend :D Of course there will be the odd patient or member of staff/volunteer who won't have seen them & request a repeat performance :D

I go in there most Fridays in term time & take my crafting bits with me, so I know a lot of them quite well which made it easier.
