Space Chick
That is sooo cool, I have had a goat before (as my star sign is Capricorn the sign of the goat) but never a chicken
Guest
I always want to buy the contraceptives - the thought of someone opening the card just makes me They have them all on the rack behind the counter in my local Oxfam shop!
mostin
What a fantastic gift. i know it's really evil of me but I have 2 very spoilt neices who think all x-mas presents should cost £200 and be electrical. i think chickens for other families who need them would make very good presents . docsquid
World Vision do a similar scheme, and I have given chickens to people in the past. Chickens from World Vision
Goosey Lucy
Te$co clubcard also lets you buy a limited range of Oxfam unwrapped gifts: goat, feed a family, safe water and school supplies. I shall be sending a few of these this year. I am not a fan of Te$co and don't shop there but we do have a credit card which we pay off every month for our Waitrose shopping and OH's travel expenses. The children bought my Mum a goat a couple of years ago (Nanny goat for Nanny! ) Mum bought me an eye operation and a mosquito net - I got her something too but I can't remember what. Egluntyne
Blimey they've put their prices up. I got a flock of 15 chickens for that sort of price a few years ago!
BarbaraJ
just bought 3 for the inlaws, don't care if they like it i'd rather spend money on that than exchanging bottles of wine or chocolates like we do every year lol
Blackrocksrock
Unicef inspired gifts also do it for children - to give them protein with the eggs the chickens lay and they also do a baby one where you buy a deliver a baby gift and they provide all the delivery equipment and the recuss to deliver babies - guess what the pregnant daughter is getting this xmas!!! They do polio vaccines, a leather football and pump and learning materials for children and story books etc - its great www.unicef.org.uk/ig

PurpleTree
We've done this for the last few Christmas' both from Oxfam and World Vision. I'm not sure if my family, especially my grandparents 'get' it as a present though, so I don't know what to do this year. I've got a goat and a pile of alpaca poo stuck to my fridge It doesn't look like Oxfam are doing the fridge magnets anymore, which is a shame. The Dogmother
What a fantastic gift. i know it's really evil of me but I have 2 very spoilt neices who think all x-mas presents should cost £200 and be electrical. i think chickens for other families who need them would make very good presents . Same here Mostin, my neice and nephew are spoiled rotten so I give them summat from Oxfam every year..... my sister tells me off for not buying them a 'proper present' but I'm not about to start competing with their spend, and refuse to buy any electronic/computer game presents. Oh, I forgot, last year I gave them a big cookie jar full of homemade biscuits and a recipe to make some more... that won't have been done! We got my mother a flock of chooks for her 70th - she has everything and didn't want presents, got her a wonderful chicken statue to go with it. kitchens
Just taken a look at this website and feel very inspired. I've just rang my mum and asked her to spend my christmas present on Training a Midwife. I had the most horrendous labour so its seems its the least I can do do help someone in a 3rd world country who may have a difficult time giving birth. I feel very happy now Thanks for the inspiration!
chickenNutter
I gave chickens to my sisters last year and a cow to my Mother in law - I just love giving these sorts of presents - its a win win - the people that most deserve them get them, you can politely offend people you don't like - (the cow to the Mother in law), and no-one can criticise you for it, you end up the saint!! Yorkshire Pudding
we did this at work last Christmas instead of sending each other cards - saved a fortune in cash and recycling. We bought a goat and now are having a vote between 20 of us to decide what to get next! My vote is chickens!
sparkysmum
Simon & I are doing Oxfam unwrapped for Christmas too. I think it's brilliant. (in fact everyone who can afford to buy what they want should do this or World Vision. Hope I'm not preaching
