What is your oldest item of clothing?

Recommended Posts

....that you still wear regularly?

I was working in the garden last weekend and suddenly realised that the tatty old rally style anorak I was wearing was my winter coat when I was 14, I am now 43, so the coat is 29 years old  (not sure if it is more shocking that it still fits me  )

I also have two pairs of black knee length school socks from around the same time, with no holes in them yet, which I still wear and they still stay up too. Lastly, another winter coat, a flimsy blouson thing, which I also wear in the garden but had to cut the sleeves off as the cuffs frayed. It is also from around the same time, I think it may have been the following winter's coat, so a mere babe at 28 years old then!

A lot of my work clothes are really old too, I have just shortened a pair of pencil skirts I bought about 15 years ago from a catalogue, they are still going strong, and I have a few M&S long sleeved t shirts from around 12 years ago.

Can anyone beat that!

I have a pair of pink jeans (yes ME pink!) that I bought for my 18th birthday. I keep them as an inspiration to be that size again..  I got back in them once.... for a brief while..:lol: but nothing that I wear regularly, I am too bored with clothes I chuck them out on a regular basis.

i haven't got anything that's more than a few years old but 2 sheds still has his boy scout jumper with all the badges on. I try and chuck it out whenever we have a sort out but he always spots it and puts it back in the drawer

It doesn't fit him any more by the way!

I think my oldest item is a set of gorgeous M&S underwear hubby bought me before the kids were born, and possibly, before we got married (so about 15 years) And, I still wear them. The bra is possibly a little too small, but I think it may have stretched to my size with all the washes its had

I have a M&S cardigan from when I was 8 so that's 35 years old but I don't wear it anymore, I still have my over the knee socks that I used to wear to school but haven't worn since I discovered Uggs last year. I also have a belt that I got when I was 12 that still fits but it looks a bit strange wearing a belt round my thigh

My mum's skirt that she had when she was 18. It used to be a dress, and now it is sadly ripping all over the place - and constantly being repaired. The cotton is such good quality not bad for 63 years old! Other than that my clothes wouldn't fit me any more from my early years - but I do wear an old M&S skirt that I had when I was expecting DS - it used to be corduroy.

I have my Mums wedding dress, just for keeping, so thats 38 years old. I love having it here, even though its just in a box, I couldn't entertain getting rid of it after we lost her.

As for clothes I still wear, I have my Mums fleece which I will often wear in the garden which must be about 15 years old, and my rain mac that I wear to sort the chickens out when its raining is about 17 years old as I bought it to walk to Uni.

I wore my Mum's diamante head dress for my wedding :D . Mum & Dad married in 1957. I kept the headdress after my wedding and when Mum died a few years ago  Dad found the veil that went with it, so I have that as well now. Will never get rid of either of them, but may lend them to my neices if they want them (if they ever that sort of wedding - at the moment they like the idea of beach weddings!)
