Clothes.... You know you are getting old when......

Recommended Posts

My brothers gf had some jeggings ages ago - I thought they were really clever

I like Topman and they always have bargain rails but will shop anywhere really, primark, H&M, TK Max + Burton.

I hate people that are obsessed with a brands ... who really looks inside your clothes and checks the label?

That reminds me of the time a Doctor at my work told me that the label was sticking out of my top, I said "quick tuck it in, I don't want people knowing how fat I am" he said "it's ok you can't see the size, it just says next"

I'm 51, but size 6, and hate leggings as they make me look like I have little spindly legs and much skinnier than I actually am. I don't really like tight/slim fit jeans for the same reason, unless I can wear big clunky boots with them. I prefer baggy/boyfriend jeans which hide the skinny pins.

I do prefer a low waist on jeans but that is because my belly button is low, so if I have a standard waist it is actually pressing on my ribs!

I've kind of come round to the tunic plus jeans look rather late, but really prefer a fitted top with trousers. I used to follow fashion a lot, but now I pick and choose what suits me in terms of styles and colours. I tend to buy things from Boden or M&S or Next as they do size 6 in some items, jeans from Republic, and other stuff from the La Redoute catalogue. I'm stuck with places that do my size and very few do size 6 and those who do, don't do stuff appropriate for my age group! I prefer to buy a few good quality items rather than lots of cheap stuff. I also like practical and warm - rather a colder house and a cardy than waste the planet just so I can wear a t-shirt indoors all year round!

I rarely wear anything other than trousers or cropped trousers in summer. I have tried eating more but it doesn't work :lol::lol:

Leggings do NOT suit me  Rosie made me try a pair on today - those black ones - they looked all wrong - she said my legs are too muscly... that and me being too short methinks

I'm quite well endowed in the thigh department Clare (I appear to have the thighs of a Japanese speed skater  ), and I only ever wear leggings with tops which come to almost the knees, otherwise I fear the 'Max Wall' effect :oops::oops:

I feel some boots may have to find there way to my daughter's feet.........I'll show her tomorrow & at that price I hope she likes them

If I used that many hairgrips, beads etc I'd be disowned

I mentioned today that my DD isn't a girly-girl & I wished she'd wear a dress/skirt etc....then looked down at my jeans, jumper & boots............no real surprise she's like she is :roll::D

I haven't been round clothes shops this year (saving money) so have missed all this. I do spend too much time in trackies and a hoody though - not a good look in someone my age  .

For some unknown reason my friends in the village are 'yummy mummy' types - I do wonder sometimes if they like spending time with me because I make them look good

If I can lose the weight I am aiming to then I should fit into the existing clothes at the back of my wardrobe - perhaps by that time they will have come back into fashion :D

Try Evans, Ubereglu. They do shoes for wide feet and big feet. They go up to a 10. They cover all the shoey bases everywhere else misses, the prices aren't bad, the style range is wide in the bigger shops or online and the sales are fantastic - £90 stuff down to a tenner. And they do big calves for people who struggle to find boots to fit.

The trouble with Evans is that their shoes tend to be wide. From what Ubereglu says, I am guessing that her feet are like mine - long but quite narrow. Long Tall Sally do big shoes now and Brantano has a limited supply. My favourite big shoe shop is Ellie Dickins. She is not cheap but some of the shoes are really lovely and it is so-o-o--o nice to have some choice!

to hijack the thread slightly..you know you are getting old when you breeze into the office and say..Hey dessert boots are back in fashion and know one knows what you are talking about

also though when you say..wow Neil Young is on at the I-O-W festival and everyone says "who"Showing my age I know..

I would not wear jeggings (i'm 53) but my age wouldn't stop me..just the fact that I have footballer's knees and would look like a pea pod supported by lumpy matchsticks :D

When I see puffball skirts and ra ra skirts I will know I am old - I owned one of each and had the legs for it  Now a size 14 and look like a chicken drumstick in leggings so wear jeans. I never had a clevage then but now have summat up top - a couple of eccles cakes might cover 'em  Oh the joys of ageing. would love a bit of botox but don't fancy a trout pout so its just as well I cant afford it isnt it?

Yep, you're right about that. Brantano in Yeovil doesn't usually have a good selection unfortunately, and some tend to be too small in an 8, but too big in a 9...It's a big problem I have with Hush Puppies, as they changed their sizing.

Luckily I fit into joules clothing shoes, generally they're really well made and their 8s come up big! :D
