gooner.girl
Just got back from walking Milo (my dog) i am covered in mud and windswept, lots of trees down in the fields and my ipod headphones kept blowing out of my ears! The river was flowing really fast and even the sheep looked windswept!!!
Nicola H
It has been really windy here Emily has just arrived home to tell me that Mr Drinkwaters class room roof blew off then Mrs Gresty's roof blew off and that she has spent the afternoon in the library...........All the girls were crying and screaming, glad it wasn't my day to help out........ "Ooops, word censored!"ody was injured thank goodness and school is not going to close Emily was very At home part of the chicken run roof has blown off up the field and next doors fence looks very unsteady, the girls have spent the day huddled in a corner poor things........... Snowy
Glad to hear everyones OK so far, it's so wild out there! My chooks don't seem too bothered, no interest in going to bed, they're still scouting round the garden for food - little pigs! Our village looks awful - all the lids have blown off the recycling bins in the car park and the stream is now full of plastic bottles, newspapers and carrier bags! Al least it's stopped raining and it's not cold - thank heaven for small mercies!
gooner.girl
Our village looks awful - all the lids have blown off the recycling bins in the car park and the stream is now full of plastic bottles, newspapers and carrier bags! Our village is looking grim as well Snowy... Not only has this rain made the village green turn to mud but there are peoples garden fences down everywhere and recyling boxes blowing all over the place (it would be bin day today wouldn't it ) OH has got to get back from work in Crawley by train and half of them are not running either... AnnieP
Our pergola has blown down, narrowly missing our glass roofed kitchen... We now have only 7 oak trees in our paddocks instead of 8 and our winter shade is somewhere in the next village However, we still have 2 dogs, 2 donks and 3 chooks, so that's ok. ......... ...................... ...... oh yes, and OH is stranded at the train station in Reading.. Lesley
But isnt it WONDERFUL to listen to the wind whistling round the house at night, whe you are all snuggle buggled warm and the chooks are all cozy in their beds No!!!!! - I just lie there worrying about whether the roof will stay on

Charlottechicken
The MD of Birmingham Airport was killed this morning when a tree hit his car . The main cross city train line was closed when a tree fell onto the line (I think near the appropriately named Wylde Green station), the flats (2 storey)on the corner of my road are being systematically stripped of tiles, I was unable to open the car door when I got home as the wind was too strong, and the chickens have been all over the place today as several fence posts have finally snapped off and they got out and had a good rummage in the garden Can we have it cold and calm now please? Chicken Licken
I am now fenceless - the wind is howling around and the chicks were baccawing forlornly. I didn't let them in the garden this morning as I thought they would blow away!! now the fence is no more they will be int he run for the foreseeable future - poor old chooks. Anyone know of any fencing people near Cambridge??
Charlottechicken
I don't know any fencers at all!! I will do some repairs tomorrow then get on to the recycled plastic fence people to have enough posts delivered to do the whole garden I think That will be the job for my week off in February! Egluntyne
My dustbin and recycling bins are all in the middle of the front lawn, contents everywhere. The lid of my compost bin is on next doors extension roof! Largish branch off at the top of the garden but no damage done. Garden like a quagmire. See "It's Snowing!!!" thread for a bit on my narrow escape.
Looney
oooh i hate the wind ( ) Managed to get a lift home from work (phew) as no trains running from Cambridge, luckily half the office seem to live in Ely and someone had come to work by car. My boyfriend is stuck in London so is staying with a friend overnight - I would feel sorry for him except he just rang from a very noisy pub so he doesn't seem too upset not to be coming home to me tonight

Tina C
Chicken Licken - you could try Huntree Fencing in St Neots (well just outside - Little Paxton) but something tells me they are going to be busy..... While I was alone in the house this afternon the wind sounded quite scary and I was dreading having to venture out. But the chickens were completely unfazed by the whole thing and went about their normal business without a care in the world, despite the fact that garden chairs and plastic toys kept rolling across the lawn. They obviously felt safe behind their Omlet netting... When I eventually plucked up the courage to go out to rescue wheelie bins that had skated across the drive and check the roof tiles etc I found much less scary than listening to it whistling around the house. Hope everyone on the forum is OK and that those that have had close encounters are recovering.
fowlbird
I should have gone to Banbury today but the A404 was closed - accident or tree down or something at Marlow and the queue stretched back 12 miles towards Reading... not to worry cos I could carry on down to Henley and through Oxford - except that the road was closed because of a fallen tree... determined to get to Banbury I decided to make my way to the M4, M25 and on to the M40... but that on the A404M a flying xmas tree just missed the car and the wind was blowing the car all over the place so I came off, through a couple of villages to get back to the A4, poor car was battered by bits of tree and then it was pushed sideways across the road and then on the traffic news I heard that both the M25 and M40 were having problems so I came home ...where I found that our 60-70ft eucalyptus tree had fallen down... it fell across what we thought was an ivy covered fence but turned out to be an ivy hedge with bits of rotten fence in it... could have been a lot worse though - I am so glad we moved the greenhouse to the top of the garden last summer... Guest
Sounds like you lot have the weather that we've had up in Scotland since New Year, while we've had a fairly calm day today, despite the threats of 100mph winds and snow. It's snowed in other parts of Scotland, but here, around Edinburgh, it sleeted on and off, and the wind stayed fairly calm.

Cinnamon
not to worry cos I could carry on down to Henley and through Oxford - except that the road was closed because of a fallen tree... Henley was completely cut off for several hours. The Hubby got home just in time, & one of my poor neighbours got herself stuck on a back road between 2 fallen trees One tree was a little too close to me in my car for comfort................. Devon was stuck at school for a couple of hours while they moved fallen trees so the coaches could move out of the car park, & was most upset to come home to a mega black-out which didn't end until 9pm

I hardly have any fencing left and what is there is mostly rotten Clare, the website is www.supalitefencing.co.uk , I started a thread on the Green Thinking board asking if anyone had tried plastic fencing, but got no replies so am assuming no-one has! I have their 2 page brochure (they respond quickly by email), the fence posts are no dearer than concrete, but will not snap either, they do matching gravel boards too, and will be doing plastic fence panels in February (these may be about £60 for 6x6 though, if other sites are anything to go by). The longer posts have a steel insert, but they are lightweight and hollow. I am researching at the moment, but they look good. Let me know what you think! I have made running repairs to my rotten fencing today and have a lovely new panel too, so chickens can now safely use all of their run!
