Visit to the dentist

Recommended Posts

Earlier this afternoon I had to go to the dentist as half of one of my back teeth had broken off.

After two injections nothing much had happened so I got two more injections and then we carried on regardless even though no part of my mouth felt numb!

So I endured a couple of minutes of painful drilling but hey ho that's life

It's now two hours later and guess what .........I can't feel the whole side of my face :roll::roll:

Oh no! That rotten. I once had an injection into the angle of my jaw at the back to have a rear tooth filled. Well, 15 minutes later, my jaw was okay, but I was having problems swallowing. Apparently there are two nerves running parallel, and she injected the wrong one :( It was quite nerve wracking, but soon passed. Hope your face returns to normal soon, and you don't feel like you are constantly dribbling (like I always do).

I had a broken tooth fixed just after Christmas. I had the option of going back another day, or having it done without an anaesthetic because they hadn't booked a long enough appointment. I decided to go without the anaesthetic and it was actually fine - I'd rather have the pain than the numb face.

It's really rotten luck you had the pain and the numb face. You deserve the Martini!

I think that must be one of the reasons i'm terrified of dentists...firstly they inject you, and it might not work, or you might still feel pain :(

I went on Monday for the first time in 18 years...

Was never happy going, and as the years went on, it built up until I was convinced that they would cause me untold pain and grief.

I think I was in the chair for about 5 mins before being told all OK, and off I go...

The sense of relief!

Two martinis now Henriette - dont care :lol::lol:

Good stuff! I always find alcohol the best anaesthetic. I had my final trip to the dentist for a dental implant that has taken over a year to complete due to complications, fractured bone and lots of stitches, and I was paying two and a half grand for the priviledge! After 6 months I couldn't even walk through the door without half a bottle of pino grigio inside me before the treatment!

I think 2 martinis is very restrained! I

a bit of advice for anyone who hates the injections (like me), there is a gel that dentists use for kids - it tastes like bubble gum, and it's amazing! It numbs your gum before they stick the needle in! I ask for it every time I go! I have really sensitive teeth and I even have to be injected when I get them cleaned by the hygienist! It doesn't cost any more money and I highly recommend it.

I have the gel before injections....and I have "Requires horse doses" written on my notes as anaesthetic doesn't take very well - I often have to go back to the waiting room for it to start to work! Perhpas you have the same problem!

I shouldn't think you care at all by now though

I must admit I've had some done without anaesthetic, I did have a dread of the injections in the mouth after the horrible dentist who painfully did my first ever one.

I'm not too bad with them now although I can't think of anyone who likes going to the dentist.

It seems a shame they can't give you something to help with the pain of the injection itself! (General anaesthetic maybe?):lol:
