Cranfield Kate
I have a very odd set up. I bought a wooden coop with integrated downstairs run and then when i got my ex batts it became obvious it was a bit small (it probably isn't but i was suffering from "My chickens need to have the absolute best of everything-itis"). So my OH built a moveable run with panels and a roof (sorry, this would have been easier with pics) for them to be in during the day and then when it gets dark, they get moved back into the downstairs run of the little coop thing so they can put themselves to bed when they're ready. now this all works fine if a little tediously and the chooks have got the hang of moving from little coop to bigh coop and back again and my flatmate loves his chicken-wrangling duties if i am not there. but oh life would be so much easier for all, especially for the chooks on days when i can't get home by dark to wrangle them back again, if they had a bedroom in the big coop. then they could stay there all day and amuse themselves instead of having to spend the day in the smaller place. so the question in, shall i buy an eglu and put it in the big one and save the little coop arrangement maybe for some smaller bantams???? Lewis
Definately to eglu ... or Go to save a bit of money You don't have to get one with a run if you already have one? Might make it a bit cheaper
Gelbel
Hi Kate. I've a wooden coop with intergrated run which is in, to all intents and purposes a WIR. I cannot justify the cost of an eglu - and I'd really love a cube - unless I get a windfall. TBH I don't like the runs with the eglu and that fact that the house is on the floor. Anyway, my reply was to ask can you not get the two set ups side by side so they can have freedom to switch from the moveable run and built-in run areas to play in? If this is possible but the heights of the runs are different, you could always fashion some sort of archway from the door of your coop run to the opening of the moveable run. chelsea
You won't regret an eglu. I actually prefer my eglu to my cube and would never part with it! They also hold their value very well if you ever needed to upgrade or sell it later on.
beulah59
I too have a wooden ark ... but I fancy a cube for the brood and an eglu for isolation/broodies/introductions ... Not a chance!
