Luvachicken
One of my girls laid this sausage shaped thing in the egg box. I have seen a smaller one before but was a bit worried as this one is bigger. It was a bit like chicken inside but raw looking but not pink. Redwing
Its a lash, uncommon but not a bad thing, its a clear out of the egg laying system
Ain't Nobody Here
Stuff about lashes here .
Luvachicken
yeah, i thought it did look a bit like strange cooked egg white inside.... one of them hasn't laid an egg for a while. How often might it happen and when do you think she might lay a normal egg? Thanks ain't "Ooops, word censored!"ody here, I just had a good look at that info

littlehenny
Funny, I found one in our nesting box this morning! Haven't had one for ages though a while ago I was getting quite a few. I added calcium and extra grit to their feed and that seemed to do the trick, so hopefully this one is one off. My three have been laying one to two eggs a day through winter, so maybe this is a clear out and they will go back up to 3 a day now that spring seems to be appearing!! Blackrocksrock
One of mine laid one of these a year ago - we are still waiting for eggs from her - she is a freeloader now and is not that old - the other two are laying fine - so maybe a sign of a problem - she goes to the box for hours and lays nothing and is not broody either. coco
Ex batt Lily laid one of these a couple of weeks ago, since then we've had a couple of eggs of her and lots of softies. she's happy and well in herself though.
Blackrocksrock
I made the sad decision to have my harriet put to sleep as she obviously had a problem - she looked healthy but there was something - we at the vets opened her up and her insides had obviously peritonitis and all the organs were stuck together - cannot have been nice for her and how she was still going on goodness knows - this all started after a lash and then another one so its worth watching out for as she did not lay properly for over a year now. Olly
Sorry to hear that. Lashes can sometimes indicate that the reproductive system is creaking to a halt, but equally sometimes they just appear. I've only ever had a couple. Poor Harriet - sounds as if you did the right thing in the circumstances.
Egluntyne
That is a shame. Sorry to hear it. You have made the right decision I'm sure.
sandyhas3chucks
So sorry to hear that, it is very sad when this happens. Wish they would/could simply stop laying. Rest in Peace and happy forever free-ranging little one If you saw previous post, sorry I misread thought ir was someone else posting
staceychristie
Sorry to hear your bad news. Here, we had two from the girls. One was poorly, and laid one (getting better slowly) and the other was in nest box from healthy hen. Stacey X
